Any of you guys have any suggestions on some shoreline fishing for crappie? I am in between boats right now and have a bad itch to get out on the water. Or if some one needs some company I have a cooler capable of holding a fair share of beverages of your choice.

I don't have a clue on crappie. I'm still trying to iron out some boat issues myself after a rebuild I may be on the water next weekend. If so, I'll shoot you a message. I have a little boat but, she'll fish two easy.

Sounds good Doc, I have no preference on what we'd be fishing for, duck season is over so now I have too much time on my hands on the weekends. I was reading your signature, do you do aluminum welding? I am in the process of getting a mud boat built and would like some benches and/or decks built after I get the boat just to get a better feel of what sizes I need. The builder is from south of dallas so it would be a lot easier to have someone around here that can do that sort of thing instead of hauling it back and forth a few times.

Nope. I have a MIG welder but I've never messed with aluminium.

I am still diagnosis/chasing some motor issues but hope to be in the water soon. I'll let ya know.

Well I got out for a couple hours Sat and Sun and caught around 30 total. No keepers but it felt good to see a bobber bouncing. Fish were in about 10 FOW and I was using a black and chartreuse tube about 4' below a bobber around brush. Caught a couple suspended on a sunny cliff edge as well.

30??

Oh you're definately going to make a trip with me

:-) I don't know squat about crappie but I have a crappie rod and some jigs and a bait bucket. And a willing attitude to fish and learn. I hear its a blast and if like some crappie for the freezer.

I'm land locked this weekend but might be able to talk the wife into a Sunday afternoon trip. I'll let you know if I'm going ahead of time. If not, maybe next weekend.

Sounds like a lot of fun to me.

Yeah 30, but this was the typical size. I don't know much about crappie but I thought is was strange that all of the fish were 8"-9". Maybe someone who has a bit more experience can chime in. Do the larger crappie hang out deeper or maybe they weren't as aggressive? I figured with the number of fish I caught one or two would at least make the table but no luck.

For bigger fish I'd try the same rig, but with a live minnow. For me minnows can't be beat for spring crappie.

I will be at the Bassmaster Classic next week but I hope to get out on the water soon and try my hand at some crappie.

I may be able to squeeze a short trip Sunday afternoon.
