LostMyWife Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Ok First question that seems to obvious. I was teaching Rob, (my lost wife), how to tie flys on her tippet. In order to do it right I took pulled some line off a tippet spool. I think I pulled from the wrong end, because it was very hard to get off the spool. I looked for another loose end with a magnifying glass and could not find one. So, my question; Is there an easy way to find the start of the tippet on a new spool? Should the line feed off freely, or do you pull from the botom so that the entire spool does not unravel. These and other questions will be coming your way as we spend more time on Taneycomo. Danoinark Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 LMW It should come off fairly easily. The Rio brand I use has a tippet wrap, some elastic around the spool with a hole where the mono is fed. Most tippet will start in the small catch where it should unravel freely. After you have as much as you need just secure it back in the catch. LostMyWife Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 All of the spools I have, have an elastic wrap to hold the line on the spool. So far no ends. Looks like razor blade time. Not for me, for the spools Yes, I'm That Guy
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 7, 2006 Root Admin Posted November 7, 2006 You can buy the elastic wrap Dano mentioned in most shops. We carry 2 sizes- one for the common spools like Rio and Umpqua and one for larger spools like Maxima. They're cheaper than buying new tippet!
