9LB Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 No luck finding any walleyes. I did have something hammer my jigging rap and take about 50 yards of line before a huge snap of the line and an enormous whirlpool ! Felt like I hooked a jet ski ! I have never seean anything like it. The hit about broke my arm and the water made this huge vortex type whirlpool motion after the line snapped ! I may have hooked a loon ! I have been known to catch birds. Any ideas on what this may have been ? I might not swim in the lake this year. About 10 am went bass fishing. I have never used the megabass 110 but it sure does the job. The first 2 spots I caught 5 keepers and 1 nice one that went 4.5 lb. I have never spent $25 on a lure but it did seem to work. The good news is I hit the shore to let the dog take care of business and found one wrapped around a limb ! Bonus ! I tried to repeat my success on the first two spots and no luck. Threw everything at em. It was like at noon the fish just stopped. Went down river and still no luck. The water temp was 40 and I did see it up to 41.5 down river back in the coves. The water on the river was real dingy. Not enough room on the lake for fishing and water skiers if we do not get any rain or snow. I found the fish on the main lake at the begining of coves where we had a nice steep drop. I am not good at fishing slow but they seemed to hit if you could keep it still long enough. Todd - I think I may have seen your black Champion jigging outside the boat ramp at Roark ?
straw hat Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Loosing a big fish without ever seeing it really sucks!!! I had a similalr experience once but was lucky enough to get the fish in. It was a carp that weighted 54 lbs on a small crappie minnow. (He was eating light that day!!) lol Odds are it was a big carp but unluckily you will just never know.
powerdive Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 9LB, a couple years back I caught a 35-lb. flathead on a Jigging Rap up by the dam in February (have caught several good-sized wintertime cats on these lures). That one came from 75 feet down on ML spinning gear and 10/2 braid--it was about all my poor reel could handle. I had visions of a world record walleye...
9LB Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 It did sort of remind me of a big flathead
