vonreed Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 After all my good luck last Sunday( besides all the boat traffic) I decided to go back yesterday before the ice storm hit. I had already eaten my limit of crappie from before. I decided to take my kayak since I figured there wouldn't be much boat traffic. Well there were no boats. I spent about 2 1/2 hrs drifting around trying to find them again. I ended up only catching 3 keepers and a short. I guess with the front coming through it had them shut down. On my way down there I had dreams of getting my limit in about an hour, lol. I hope they show back up, they were sure easy pickings before. I used sliders, swimming minnows, small crappie grubs and had hard luck with all.
Josh Holt Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 the cold front pushing in may have pushed them a little deeper or they could have been tight lipped. I am just wondering how all this cold ice and sleet melt is going to drop the water temp or if it does at all. Cause it will push them back a little deeper and may shut them down for a while,I might go this week end if it isn't too cold so I should have some sort of report to give weather its good or bad lol.

vonreed Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 How was the wind in the kayak? All there was was a slight breeze. Most of the time I was sitting pretty still. It was right before the front 2:00-4:30
duckydoty Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I was working on the hill up on Indian Point and it was blowing pretty hard up there. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Troy Gregg Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Wednesday we started the day out up the kings looking for crappie and some wiggle wart fish, The crappie were no where to be found and the wart fish were two largemouth both dinks. So we loaded up and headed for the James Arm. I hit Flat Creek later in the day around 11 with one other boat working the crappie. That boat had been there most of the morning with very little success as well, he had 4 crappie. I managed to find a the crappie scattered around the edge of the flats and began swam swimming minnows and grubs through them with only short hits and nibbles. They appeared to have lock jaw as the cold front pushed through. I gave them over 2 hours with nary a fish. Worked the baits along the bottom from 7 ft all the way to 12 feet. The fish were still holding pretty much 8-10 feet and on the edges of the flats. They will turn on again as the weather stabilizes. I turned around from there and went to virgin bluff looking for ol' line sides and there were fish there too, but again lock-jaw seemed to grab ahold of them, worked Jerkbaits and A-rigs over the top and through them with only a couple nibbles on the A-rig. Two paddle tails came up missing. Wish I'd had a better report to post, Tight lines everybody and the fishing is only gettin better Troy Gregg Troy Gregg
Josh Holt Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Well went today at flat creek two people in my friends boat limited out we ended up with one limit but when i finally figure them out today I had to leave for my little girls b day party but I now know where they are at again and a new trick thanks to my buddies who limited out
vonreed Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 I was down there today also with very little luck. I only caught 2 today. I seen a boat catch a few 100 yards away, but I could never get them to hit on anything I was throwing. Sometimes watching others catch em gets frustrating, lol.
Josh Holt Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 what kinda boat was u in I probly saw you
Flippin Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I went out with a buddy on Saturday looking for the crappie. We started working out way towards Flat creek. We picked up 7 keepers on the way, scattered on the flats and 1 in Flat creek. Caught them all on the swimming minnow. We only had 2 shorts all day. We saw the conservation dept putting out nets. I assume their intention was to catch spoonbill and harvest their eggs?
