Murdoc Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 It was Friday free for all!!! I got down to the river at around 6AM. There were about ten people fishing. Not bad. No water running. I started above the rebar hole at the corner. Started great! Used a SanJuan shamie worm. Caught one after the other for about two hours. Lost a Hog!! He jumped out of the water in front of me to say NA NA! Pretty fish over 10lbs easy. I finely looked up to see how many people were there then. 40+!! The outlets were full of people! The snagging was awful! I moved down a little and a guy moved into the spot that I was at and right away he had a real nice fish hooked, hooked in the belly! He had to take some pictures of him and his prize. I watched a while and saw him snag at least three other nice fish. I wish I hadn't seen this. It kind of put a wet blanket on the day. I watched a guy up at two pick up a fish about four pounds with the line and try to shake it off and then kick it back into the deeper water. I'm not sure I'm going back in the day time until it gets very cold and the warm weather people stop coming down so I don't see some of these things. Notice I said "people" they aren't fishermen. I want to end this on a good note. I did enjoy talking to the young man from KC that was just starting to fly fish! Please don't learn from what you saw today with some of these people. Tightline Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I was there today at 6:00 am also Murdoc, fished from #1 up to the wire. The first hour was great, caught most on white 1/32 ounce jig.Seen some foul hooked fish caught but don't think any of them were on purpose, seen one nice 26 inch Brown caught and released and also a guy fishing with a roostertail snagged a nice 5-6 lb Brown but he took it home!! I'm begining to think they should just shut the season down for about 2-3 weeks in the fall, give them a chance to try and spawn. There's just too much pressure on these fish, they get hammered day and night.Just my opinion. They started biting better again after I came back from lunch for about 30 minutes I could do no wrong, still with white and a few on olive jigs. TL
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 11, 2006 Root Admin Posted November 11, 2006 Great to see you're doing so well on jigs... Gotta fish with blinders this time of year on upper Taney. Most people try to do the right thing- then there's one or two that spoil the show.
Don Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I was there from about 11:30 until water came on about 4:00. Very crowded. As I arrived, I watched a guy hook and land about a nine pounder. Nice fish. I fished between chutes 1 and 2. I only landed three and caught those on a cheese colored egg pattern. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
MOBass Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 We need a good cold snap to settle things down. The colder it is the better. That seems to thin the herd a little bit and leave mostly people that are serious about the fishing. I am just grateful for every one person I see doing things wrong I see several that are doing things right.
Members D.T. Posted November 13, 2006 Members Posted November 13, 2006 My buddy and I were there the past 4 days and couldnt believe how some would come up and start fishing less than a rod length from us. If you caught a fish and had to move very far to net it they would move right into your spot and not move when you came back. We moved several times because we were crowded out. The best one was a kid in his late teens or early twenties who walked in front of everyone in the rebar area and just stared in the water not even fishing. One guy asked him if he was crossing or was going to move and he said no he was just staying where he was at, (right in the middle of the run where everyone was fishing). We went up to the shelter for lunch and talked to a man and women and told them about this kid and that he needed his tail kicked. The next morning I was fishing at the end of the narrows when the guy from the shelter came up and stood a rod length from me and I couldnt even get a back cast. About a minute later this kid from the rebar shows up and it turns out that they are father and son. This is not to say everyone there was rude because we always talk to lots of nice people who have good stream side manners. Thanks to all of you good ones out there.
