Terry Beeson Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Uh... I didn't see no pictures of no 30 inch pheesh there, Leonard... Sounds like a pretty good night and you left at a good time... Leonard Posted November 15, 2006 Author Posted November 15, 2006 I got on the water about 9:30pm... Id say there was about 5 people there when I got there I rigged up with a glow indicator and started at just out from chute 2... had 2 hook ups on a scud... fished there for about 45 minutes and had enough... changed over to a olive sculpin and had 2 quick bumps... well I notice up stream by chute 1...I didnt see any lights on... so I moved up there.... there was1 guy up there using a spinning rod... 1st cast with the sculpin was a 17in brown, second cast was a 18in bow.... well for the next 45 minutes I was on fish.. and caught maybe 15-20.. missed alot more than that then the wind started to pick up... so I went white and heavier... pick up 2 more on a white wooly and then put on a white bunny leech caught 5 more dead drifting on the bottom (NOTE: Dont cast a weighted leech in the wind... it will hit you in the head ) all in all a good night... as I was leaving I run into fly2fish.. and decided to throw a rapala for a few minutes... caught 1 fish and then I started to see a little lightening and it was time to head home.. 2am http://www.taneycomonights.com
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 15, 2006 Root Admin Posted November 15, 2006 Sorry I didn't go. I knew it would be a good night. Thanks for the report Leonard.

fly2fish Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Just as Leonard was pulling out of the parking lot I landed a 25+ in. male on the ultra light using small gold rapala. It only took about a minute to land, I didn't want to use the net and get him tangled so I was leading him into the shallows and he broke off and I had to put the net on him (trap) he was to long for my net. I had to take 3 shots at reviving him because he would take off and run up into the shallows. Finally got him to head to deeper water. It would have been more fun on the flyrod but would have taken longer to land, so it was better for the fish. As Leonard said it was starting to lightening and I didn't bother to get the lure out of the net until I got back.
LostMyWife Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Looking for info on spinning outfit for trout on taney. I was only there a few times but I did not see anyone using anything but fly rods. Can I get some recommendation on specific gear. Reel make and model, rod make model and length etc.? Any help would be appreciated. Yes, I'm That Guy
Fish Bork Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Havn't been since March but when I'm throwing raps at night I use my 6'6" medium light rod gets the bait out a little farther and I have better control with it. In my opinion the make and model of a rod and reel doesn't matter except to yourself. Use what you are confortable with and what you can afford. Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

Any help would be appreciated. If you go at night, you'll proably see a higher ratio of folks with spinning gear. Thats when I go, in fact I have only fished at Taney once during the daytime and it was so horribly crowded that I'll never do that again. Anyway, I like to use Loomis rods 6'6" to 7' medium light to medium (for big baits). Loomis is pretty freaking hard on the pocketbook though, I would just get what you can afford but preferrably something with a good backbone and a sensitive tip. I just busted my Loomis and am just using a Bass Pro special somthing-or-other right now until the Loomis gets fixed. For reels, shimano spirex is my favorite, been using it for over a decade. Very reliable and tough reel.
