Members Nathan Shaw Posted April 25, 2013 Members Posted April 25, 2013 I will be in the long creek area this weekend and will be trying to get my kids and dad on a few fish. I am targeting #'s and everything we catch will go back in the lake (possibly keep a few crappie). I'm hoping we can catch a few crappie off of some timber and a few bucks on some spawning banks. I would appreciate any vague info on my plan of attack. I will only be down there a couple days and thought I would try to speed up my learning curve a little by utilizing some info here. Thank you and will report back on Monday.
Troy Gregg Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Nathan , get you some minnows for crappie and fish a shaky head and a mojo rig in the gravel spawning pockets should get you bit quite a bit Troy Gregg
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 26, 2013 Root Admin Posted April 26, 2013 Depending on how much rain we get, Long Creek might be muddied up. You might have to go out to the main lake. The big cove, east side, just south of the 86 bridge has a lot of standing timber and an old friend of mine said he used to clean up on crappie around that timber.

Members Nathan Shaw Posted April 27, 2013 Author Members Posted April 27, 2013 Well we went this evening to a little cove across from the long creek ramp and caught a few crappie and a few bass throwing swimming minnows. One of the crappie was a good'n and the other fish where dinks. We had to get them close to the bottom to get bit. The color didn't seem to matter. Three of us caught about 6 fish total in an hour of fishing with several more bites and a couple long distance releases. Not too bad for just checking things out before we give it a good effort tomorrow. The depth finder read 55 degrees at the mouth and water had good color to it. If the rain gives us a chance we are planning on drowning a few minnows SE of the bridge and may run into the creek if it's not too muddy. Thanks for the helpful info again!
Members KC Trout Fan Posted April 27, 2013 Members Posted April 27, 2013 We caught about 20 bass in cricket last weekend all on shakey heads. Was muddy last weekend but still caught them. Psalm 16:8 I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
Members Nathan Shaw Posted April 28, 2013 Author Members Posted April 28, 2013 Today was a great day for us. I put my kidos and pops on a few fish. We started out in the cove just SE of the bridge using minnows. We just drifted around a while until we found a spot where we ended up catching 3 crappie and a few short bass. The rain started in around 10:00 I think and we headed back to the dock. When got back out about noon and headed into what I think is Brush Creek. We tried to hit a few stick ups throwing swimming minnows and dropping a few minnows straight down with no luck. We decided to hit a few points and try our luck at bass fishing for a while. We started where the creek splits and stayed there most of the day. We probably ended up with approx 30 bass and a crappie between three of us. We caught 90% of the bass the Ned Rig using a peanut butter and jelly Zero (that's what it says on the package anyway). It really didn't seem to matter on the retrieve (drug, swam, hopped, etc), but the bites where fairly light (tap, tap, and a little tug). Thanks again for the helpful hints. I don't claim to be a bass fisherman or be all that knowledgeable about it, so if I can catch'em, it's should be safe to say that just about anybody can. So get out there and gett'm. We weren't after size, but for those curious I would guess the best 5 would have gone between 12-15 lbs.
