We are thinking about pitching a tent for a few days and would like to ask if there are any campgrounds that you recommend near the State Park?

Besides the state park itself?? Go across the 64 bridge and there are a couple of places that are on the river. If it is before floating season you should be OK. They can get kinda rowdy on the weekends during floating season. Myself I would just camp in the park. Decent showers and restrooms. CG #5 has a few primitive spots that have grass or soft groung to put a tent on.

Riverfront or Fort Niangua wouldn't be bad choices. They are upriver from Bennett and are probably what Noluck is referring too.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Wornica,

What time of the week are you going? If it's during the weekend I would definately recommend in the park itself. I have camped outside the park and found it to be too busy for me, especially on the weekends.

As far as the BSSP goes, all the imenities work and are usually pretty clean. Except for Campground 1 you are surrounded by woods. I'm a big fan of Campground 5. It is not a reservable CG but usually there is space especially if your dry camping as there are several sites for dry camping only. Plus the dry camping sites are very close to the facilities and Wi-Fi connection. All the sites have a picnic table, fire pit and some are paved.

Here is the link to the BSSP site. You can check out the maps or book a reservation. http://www.mostateparks.com/campgrounds/bennett-spring-state-park.

Plus they do have Park Rangers, the Park Manager and Host's in the CG's all the time keeping an eye on things. Just wished I was making arrangments to go!!

Good luck.

We will be going during the week right after Memorial day. Leaning now on just staying in the campground at Bennett Springs. Thanks everyone!

If you have a truck or suv I would recommend River Front if you get there on a weekday. There is a few back camp sites by the river that are really nice and seclusive. But if you have a car the road is a little rough.
