I heard Larry Dablemont on the radio this morning say crappie spawn in water one foot deeper than you can see. He used a succi disk as an example how far is "deep". Problem is, at least on Table Rock, visibility is 20-30 and even 40 feet deep right now. So where do crappie spawn in that kind of water? Do they just hold their eggs?

I had to get to church or I would have called him and asked.

Crappie spawn deep when the water is clear enough or if gets too late in the year and they are ready to go.

According to Wally Marshall.

My buddy and I had 7 keeper walleye (only kept 3) and 19 keeper crappie (only kept 12)...never fished deeper than 12 feet with most of them coming 3-7. Some decent crappie moved up between 1-3pm and were right on the bank...other than that mostly just fan casted spawning pockets. Of the 12 crappie we kept only 2 had eggs and they weren't ready to spawn yet. I don't fish Stockton a lot but it is such a great lake...caught smallmouth, largemouth, spots, crappie, walleye, catfish and drum on an all day bite.

On Table Rock, I've caught crappie up spawning shallow in clear water but only very early and late in the day. They move up while the light is low and move off when it gets lighter. May be that's another variable when fishing clear lakes.

I was noticing I was catching the bigger walleyes in the shallow water once the sun was up. I guess they are probalby trolling the banks to raid beds ? I also had one of them Big Table Rock Walleyes on Saturday during the KVD, he must of been about 7 lbs smash a bait in about 6 foot of water.
