I have been waiting for this for awhile...Should be a very informative app and his stuff is generally pretty spot on.

This app is the topic of multiple discussions on Walleye Central. Word has it he (Mark Romanack) will charge for each lure you download. That seems a bit harsh, even if its 99 cents per lure. I have a copy of the last printed edition and use it often.

Here is a make do method:

1. Always use the same line. I use 10# Power Pro Depth Hunter braid which changes color every 25 feet.

2. Find a flat that stays fairly level.

3. Start with 2 or 3 lures - I would suggest an original series Wiggle Wart, a 7 cm Berkley Flicker Shad, and a Norman Deep Little N. All three are inexpensive and work great on multiple species.

4. Find out how many feet (colors) you must let out from the rod tip for each of the three baits to hit bottom at 10, 15, 20, and 25 feet. BTW Only the Deep Little N and the Wiggle Wart can hit bottom at 25 on 10# test braid.

5. On the separate Plano boxes you use to store the different colors of each bait, write down the feet from tip required to hit the depths.

You will be able to fine tune (17 feet will be not quite half the difference between 15 feet and 20 feet) on the fly.

Good luck.

Great advise Randy. If people are wanting to know what the secret is to trolling it is knowing everything going on, its really an art-form for lack of better words. If you ride in a boat with a person who really has taken time to master the art its like watching a painter strike brush strokes across a canvas.

As rps implies, learn the concepts and you won't need the book. (Or app -- sorry, I didn't follow the link.)

As F&F says, go with someone who knows what they're doing and it'll shorten the learning curve tremendously.

Experiment on your own. Invest some brainpower. Too many people are so dependent on the numbers that they're lost when conditions deviate or they don't have the book handy. One day on a flat with pen and paper will give you all the info you need. Eventually, you'll be able to simply look at any lure and intuitively know how far back to run it.

Thanks a lot rps, especially for the line suggestion, that's as handy as a pocket on a shirt. I will put it to work this morning. Thanks again for all the info

Need2fish; Spend a lot of time on Google Earth looking back through time on the maps and see what the lakes you want to fish on look like at different levels, after time you will be able to pick out stumps, timber, rocks and contours. They are a great benefit of technology, pay attention to types of points and the banks that will help you figure out where a mudline or current break will develop in a wind condition. There is so much more that goes in to trolling than just dropping a bait behind the boat and putting the boat in gear.

1st I'd like to thank everyone for all the info. Just got of the water ....put in at diamond city and fished mostly steep chunk rock banks i (as mike w I believe said) trolled 7mm flicker shad in black silver and blue tiger caught walleye on both 14 to 16 feet on the hbird. Around 10:30 the bite slowed ...I still saw fish in the same areas just 18 to 25 ft now. Switched to wart and caught one short walleye and a few smallies. Ended the morn with 6 total eyes 4 shorts a 19 and a 22" 3 spots 1 crappie and 3 whites. The best part of the trip was seeing my dad catch his 1st eye (the 22) spent 1sst part of morn putting the advice on this topic to use, with great results...can't thank everyone enough.. when i figure out how to post pics w the droid 4 I will do so.....
