Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 23, 2006 Root Admin Posted November 23, 2006 This should slow down the spammers on the forum. It adds a step in registering for everyone BUT it would add several more steps for a spammer. He would have to enter a valid email address, retrieve his validation off his email account and then go into my controls and delete his email address. I'm betting they won't take the time. What if they don't delete their email address?? I'll get it, post it on the forum and let everyone use it to sign up for everything under the sun. They'll get a taste of REAL spamming.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 24, 2006 Author Root Admin Posted November 24, 2006 These are email addresses from some of our beloved spammers. Now I recommend that no one email these guys directly or else they could do something with your email that you wouldn't want. But if you know of any newsletters or other automatic services that these guys might be interested in, sign them up! loginb@bestfreemall.info 200.96.119.124 darlerspt@web.de 66.235.184.173 Side note - it seems like it's working. I have had 12 spammers sign up but didn't finish the email part of validating. Nice.
Thom Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Brilliant idea. Thanks for for all of your efforts to make this a first class forum. I saw the one yesterday for Brittiny's webcam. so sad that folks have such warped minds and lives when their efforts could be invested so many worthwhile things that give eternal rewards and blessings. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 24, 2006 Author Root Admin Posted November 24, 2006 If you look at members, change to 50, desending and change order of 'date joined', you'll now see who's joined and who's not. Interesting.

Members drbewley Posted November 25, 2006 Members Posted November 25, 2006 Phil, That should help a lot I would think. Some sites even have random numbers and letters you have to type in to make it harder for the 'bots.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 25, 2006 Author Root Admin Posted November 25, 2006 OAF does. It's a number. How do bots work?
Members drbewley Posted November 25, 2006 Members Posted November 25, 2006 OAF does. It's a number. How do bots work? You've exceeded my knowledge there Phil. But, I'll jump in and say I think somehow some programs can glean info and are able to register on sites like yours and/or send email spam. It's a lot beyond me. I'm still working on a good dead drift
