Quillback Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Up with the chickens this morning, threw my first cast a little after 0530. Had a great TW bite for about an hour, most came on the Gunfish, a couple on a Lucky Craft RC wakebait. Then once the sun came over the hill that bite stopped. Spend some time c-rigging, caught a few doing that but never could find a good bite on the bottom dragging stuff. Finished with 17 black bass, had some decent quality, nothing huge, but a fair bag of 15-17" fish. Did have one that looked to be about 4 lbs. come unpinned at the boat. On the trailer at 1145. Lots of bass and walleye boats on the water today.
Quillback Posted June 7, 2013 Author Posted June 7, 2013 Rps, I caught a couple dragging on gravel points right up by the buck brush. Got the one above in about 10 feet on a timbered flat. Tried a couple of places that were 10-15' that held fish a couple of days ago, but no dice. Not much of a drag bite today for me.
Tfsh4bass Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Was the water pretty clear up there...thinking about fishing Shell Knob to M tomorrow and want to throw a swimbait all day
Quillback Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 It's not clear by TR standards, 5 - 8 feet of viz, less in some of the coves. Swimbait sounds like a good idea, hopefully you'll get into them!
Tfsh4bass Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Thank you! 5-8 is good for me...Joe Bald was maybe a foot yesterday and no good for swimbait. I have gotten lazy these days and like to throw single hooks I caught them really good on a crank yesterday around Joe Bald but after almost getting hooked 3 different times by crazy smallmouth I ran to Kimberling and threw swimbait...caught a bunch (including better quality) and never came close to wearing the bait.
Tfsh4bass Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I have never fished the Shell Knob to M area this time of year and I was a little surprised by the number of ski boats, cruisers and cigar boats up there...holy cow it was rough but the fish didn't seem to mind.
Quillback Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 Yeah unfortunately they find their way up there. Was the swim bait working?
Tfsh4bass Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Yeah unfortunately they find their way up there. Was the swim bait working? It worked really good from 5:30 to 10 and then with the boat traffic I altered my plan. I caught a ton of fish on a swim jig around the flooded bushes on main lake flats and flat points...the traffic always creates a mudline on those kind of banks and I like to get up there when the water is in the bushes. Didn't catch anything over 3 but caught a bunch. I picked my swimbait back up around 6 and caught a few more on it before leaving around 7.
Members Topwater TRL Posted June 9, 2013 Members Posted June 9, 2013 Nice report! Thanks. It was the annual Mastercraft reunion weekend. Yepee! Tons if X-boats attend every year. Guess they wee having a waking good time. I was looking for my seatbelt most of the day. Topwater TRL
