Need some direction from you spinning fisherman experts. My father will be coming to Bennett to fish with us in a couple weeks. He's a very good lifelong bass and crappie fisherman. I need some suggestions on what he should throw in zones 1 & 2 with his ultralight spinning rods. We just fly fish those zones. We tie flies but just didn't know what to fix up for him .Thanks for the help.

Tie up some green, brown and grizzly short woolies with a short red butt. Add some weight to them so they can down a little ways. Get some in line spinners at the fly shop in gold and silver and attached the woolies to them. Thats what I use to use all the time. Rooster tails are good as well. Best bet is the good ole gold head black and yellow jig though. Never can go wrong with the jigs.

Problem with rooster tails is the $$. I use to loose them right and left. When I switched to the in-line spinners with the woolies it cut the cost in half. You might also hook a crackle back to the in-lines.

Make sure the Rooster Tails you use in Zone 1 only have a single hook point, not a treble hook. Only single hooks can be legally used in Zone 1.

Concur. I would also black and yellow jigs. Reel them in while bouncing the tip of the pole. Also, in the riffles below the main bridge...throw out san wan's and let out line so they go down stream. Then slowly bounce them back up stream trying to pull them into behind the different bigger rocks. I assume the flies get into the little eddies and the trout hit them even though you are pulling them up stream. It is wierd, it doesn't work all the time, but when it does it works well. I normally use this in the early afternoon when the crowds are down. You will know if it is working within 15 minutes.

go to weavers. great folks. check their report as well. I always have lots of luck on black and yellow and glow balls. got a few spots there that I can always squeeze a limit out of even if its slow fishing.

I would be throwing mini jigs under a float. John Deer, white, or yellow. The trick is to keep it in the bottom 1 foot. I've never done that well hopping jigs after thd first hour, at least compered to drifting a mini.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
