Members aarthur94 Posted June 19, 2013 Members Posted June 19, 2013 I am new to springfield and I'm trying to figure the area out I've been fishing fellows lake and have had very little success. I put my kayak in at lake springfield and went up the james a ways and fished around in the area caught a couple fish can anyone give me any advice as to where on the james I should be fishing "is the area I was in ever very productive"? How about fellows lake I talked to a guy that said I need to go across the lake to catch fish? Any advice
Members CanoeBoy Posted June 19, 2013 Members Posted June 19, 2013 I fished fellows today and caught 3 nice bass by the fish marker by the dock close to the bank. Lost one that was at least a 5 lb due to some submerged brush. I was using a jig w/creature bait when I caught all of them, but that was about it. Fellows has a tough bite with an occasional muskie or walleye. Lake Springfield is good at times in certain spots of the lake. I have caught a lot of bass on jigs and also top water spooks before sundown. That lake is definitely over-fished and have seen people keeping bass that are barely pushing 10 inches on several occasions. If you got the time i would recommend fishing table rock if your looking for numbers. Once you learn to fish that lake its worth the drive if you have more than a few hours to fish. Ive never fished McDaniels....... anybody know how the fishing is out there?
Members aarthur94 Posted June 19, 2013 Author Members Posted June 19, 2013 How about the james river? Should I be fishing up stream from lake springfield or below the dam? My daughter is just getting old enough she loves fishing but she's still little enough she gets bored if she's not catching fish.
Daveinozark Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 for the daughter's outing, go to Springfield lake park. Park at the play gym parking lot and walk down the hill. There's a few nice clearing areas there. Bring worms and she'll catch plenty of perch or cats there. If they aren't biting, walk back up the hill and play on the play gym
exiledguide Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Daveinozark that's the secret. Fishing should be what the child wants it to be and nothing is better than a fishin' hole with a playground and a parent or grandparent with a lot of patience. I would suggest crickets cause if the fishing is slow and the playground is boring , it can be a lot of fun catching the crickets when grandpa drops them........
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 aarthur fishing here is like everywhere, it depends on being at the right place at the right time. There are no secrets, but you would probably do better paddling upstream on the James an throwing grubs worked on the bottom. Add other lures after you fell you can do all that can be achieved with the grubs. Colors should be the one you think will be the hardest for the fish to see, they don't find there food standing out. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
John Andrews Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I do very good at springfirld lake. Top water is what I do the best on. I do have a few special spots and tricks I use that vary from the way the masses say to use them. If you are fishing from the bank, you tube the "float and fly" I have used it with good resukts. Good luck out there
