ollie Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Water was beautiful with the flow getting back down to where the levels are for summertime. Fishing was pretty good, but it took me a while to get dialed in on what they wanted. Started with a fluke, no dice there. Switched over to a brush hog, nothing going on there as well. Then started throwing a grub and things started to pick up. Caught several small bass and some google-eyes thrown in for good measure. Biggest of the day for me was a 16 1/2". Came out of a deep hole on a bend where a tree root wad had made it deep behind it. Not as big a CDC's, but for me this is the biggest of the year so far on Big Sugar. Great day and I did see 4 guys wade fishing and pounding the heck out of the water. They weren't doing so well when I spoke to them though. I wasn't doing that well at that time either! It took a while, but it was worth it. Buzz Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Nice fish Ollie. Did the wind give you any problems? If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
fishinSWMO Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 That's a good one. I did a little fishing down around there Friday, and later in the afternoon it was every cast had a fish for awhile. Jeremy Dodson
Guest Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I've noticed they'll pound a Lil dipper swimbait, so that falls into the category of grubbing bass. Did you try a finesse worm?
Members CDC Posted June 26, 2013 Members Posted June 26, 2013 Nice bass. That is generally the range of the bigger fish i catch on Sugar. Last week's 18 inch bass was a rarity for that stretch of creek.
ollie Posted June 26, 2013 Author Posted June 26, 2013 Hey, before last years drought I was catching at least one every year down there in the 18-19" range it seemed like. I felt lucky to catch the one I did! lol "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
