...went this morning...water was perfect...caught 2 at the Hwy. 64 access and 2 more at Barclay...it wasn't easy...

I like both those spots. When you learn how to time (avoid) the crowds, you can have an enjoyable time. I'll take 4 in the river over 10 in the park anyday.

I absolutely love the river. I like to take a trout spey/switch rod with me and fish from the banks when I can't wade. In fact, I'll be doing that this weekend. However, I haven't fished the river since last year. I'm ready. :)

Water moccasins are bad around Barclay...timber rattlers, too. Big snakes, 6 feet long and longer. Cold-eyed, deadly reptiles that slither up behind people without making a sound. Don't go to Barclay if serpents bother you. :yuush:

I know a Guy that lived over by Barclay, has a Half Gallon Jar of Rattles off of Rattlers from around there.

I haven't seen any Water Moccasins but have seen plenty Copperheads and Big Rattlers.

There were always a few rattlers that were killed in the Gap.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Thanks everyone for the advice. We caught a few down from the boat access around the corner in that first run, a few more in the nice quick run down from that, and we flat out had a blast where the spring meets the river. We landed and released about 15 trout in this run in about an hour and it was a of fun. I had no idea the Niangua was that beautiful. I will be coming back next time as we only saw one other fly fisherman. FYI - the floaters got to us around 11 AM and that is when it was time to get off the river!
