Members jonbo Posted July 3, 2013 Members Posted July 3, 2013 Out of the blue my wife booked a cabin in Hardy for the weekend of the 4th. Desperate need to get away from home/family pressure. She invited me along, luckily. Well, I understand I have to drive upriver a few miles to find the good trout wade fishing. I was wondering if anyone could give me any quick advice as to where to go and patterns to use. From my gleanings on the 'Net it looks right now I'ma gonna' try the Bayou Access. It looks like olive woolies, hot pink San Juan worms, and some standard nymphs like Prince, pheasant tail and copper-johns are the way to go. Can anyone add anything? Much obliged. jonbo
Brian Sloss Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 4th of July at Bayou will be crazy with canoes. Try early morning there before the canoes get to you, then head up river to Lassiter Access where there are no canoes. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Bill Anderson Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I started fishing out of Lassiter's 35 years ago when the Lassiter family was still farming there and you put a couple of bucks in the mail box and drove through a couple of gates to fish there. The aluminum/drunk hatch was bad then below Dam 3 and today, if anything, it's even worse. Good advice about fishing Lassiter's Access. At least there, the drunken mob isn't much of a problem. I still prefer fishing the Spring in fall through spring, when there are few canoes to contend with, other than serious canoeists and kayakers. I always found those folks to be nice and courteous to fishermen. I can't count how many times the red neck drunks have run me over while I was wading and fishing on that beautiful river. I do a slow burn when I seem them tossing beer cans into the river. I have a friend, a Jewish carpenter, whom you should get to know. If you do, your life will never be the same.
jdmidwest Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Even below dam 3 on the weekend you can get in some good fishing early in the morning before the floater hatch and after the last launch. The launch part is usually the hot time of the day anyway "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Members Paparock Posted December 29, 2016 Members Posted December 29, 2016 Please wear a life jacket. I lived in and fished that area for several years. The current can be tricky and people drown there every year. Beware of canoes and kayaks! LOL.
