Floated from Lanagan to low water bridge on the Elk with my daughter yesterday late. Probably last float for me. Getting quite low, and the numbers are going down. Only about 15 with 1 good one. My daughter lost a good one who did a great leap at the boat spitting out her tube. Least we got to see it before he said, " bye"

That's a fun little float. I cut a trotline out of the river bc it was ran underneath a rope swing. Later I found a dozen bank poles with shiny hooks sticking out of a boulder pile. Somebody could get hurt or drown thanks to the slobs that left those out.

I'm glad you had a good trip.

Nice fish, If I had a buck for every abandoned limb or trot line I see on the gasconade I could retire. It's a wonder we don't hear about tragic drownings from being empaled by trot lines.

Ya know, those are great for getting lead for pouring.

Does anyone think the Elk float from Pineville down to the low water bridge has changed for the worst? To me, the first half from Pineville to Riverside has really changed over the last couple of years. I seems that so much of the water is dead water now with most of the good moving parts that always held good smallies are gone.

Also, anyone tried specifically for topwater action on the real flat stretch from the low water bride to Mt. Shira? I typically don't like that stretch cuz of the dead water, and that I usually don't do that well on that part. ,,, thinking the topwater bite might be good now.

I wasn't on Elk last weekend but the top water bite was hot all day long. In fact at my put in, I just stood there fishing for a minute and quickly hit the tri fecta of black bass on top water. I am planning on doing it again in a couple of days.

It's more of a slack water lake than a river.

There's too many silted in areas, but the fish are there. I like it when the waters running higher than right now. Say, 900 cfs.
