Members delopez Posted July 9, 2013 Members Posted July 9, 2013 hello all, i'm getting ready to float this river in kayaks. Any reccomendations in flies, lines (sink rates), tactics, for this river? Thanks, delopez
Nick Williams Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I hope canoes/rafts and people are your intended target species! There will be a lot of them! - Nick
Members delopez Posted July 11, 2013 Author Members Posted July 11, 2013 I was thinking more about smallies, gar, etc. However, given the situation, I wouldn't be opposed to catching a canoe or two...
dennis boatman Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 ...I have found that traffic doesn't really affect the fishing, as long people are just "floating" through and not thrashing around in the water...especially on the Niangua..I've caught trout right under canoes...it always impresses... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Guest Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 the water was muddy 2 weeks ago when i was there. All the drunks wallowing around created a huge mud line. Not to mention a string of beer cans on the bottom. I would go out at daylight on the weekends to avoid the idiots and their trail of destruction
Members delopez Posted July 12, 2013 Author Members Posted July 12, 2013 That sounds said. I heard it was a great small bass fishery.
Troutnut69 Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Floated and fished this river with a couple buddies on July 3rd. Water is low and clear (standard for summer here in the Ozarks) and the fish were hiding out in the deep holes. The larger streamers and sinking lines were out and smaller weighted flies fished slowly took lots of fish but nothing of much size. Definitely get out early and beat the circus...we had people pulling over and climbing and then jumping off rootwads that we were anchored up and obviously fishing. DUH!!!! Pretty much after noon I just popped the top on a cold one , lit a cigar and did my best to enjoy the dung-show!!

I should have been runing the go-pro near the RR bridge last time. 3 canoes piled up on top of each other. I had to paddle like hell and steer the boat around the traffic jam. They get mad if you ram into them, even though its their fault for blocking the river channel. You just cant communicate with idiots. I try not to make eye conatct or speak to any of the drunken animals. Then start fishing as soon as you pass all the crowds. Ive caught fish right around people swimming in deeper areas. The shallow stuff gets wrecked pretty quick.
