Managed three crappie last night , had hundreds of baitfish and some good sized shad in the bottom of the school , but fish were few and far between , all were caught above brush in about 40 ft of water ! We did see a huge gator gar swim right through the middle and a big bass , those were the only game fish we saw under there , and not one crappie came anywhere near the light !

Ended last night around 1, called it a night a little earlier than I planned but ended up with 9 crappie between 2 of us. Caught about a dozen more that were short. And finally caught a cat on my jugs! Saw about 6 boats under 12 bridge as we were leaving. Caught all on minnows 15' down in 45' FOW in pole timber. No shad came in but had a few hundred smaller minnows. No walleye :(

So you got a fish finder? Nice to hear someone is having so much luck with crappie. You are definately....the crappie whisperer!! Lol!

I'd start a new thread, but this thread is not too old. I'm going out tonight with the wife. I've just got to settle in on a spot I figure. I am not so much looking for crappie specifically as I am anything else in the neighborhood of them, whites, hybrids, and I wont be disappointed if a striper comes by.

So main channel is the key? And by that is it the MAIN channel, or would the main channel of Indian Creek be good? I am still somewhat confused by terminology and such. I think that sometimes it gets loosely used(mostly by me) and so its hard to understand what someone specifically is talking about.

I figure we will bring a smorgasbord to the lake with us. Worms, minnows, and lures of various sorts.

Any hot tips?

Yep, it's tough fishing this time of year period. No matter what time of day. With all of this rain it either makes it harder or easier depending on what pattern you're on and what end of the lake you're on. I myself don't have a clue but I'd probably stay above the 12 bridge till the water clears up a bit below 12. Although, I've heard opposite of that in the past. Muddy water pushes fish shallow and it's oxygen enriched.

Fished 7/30/13 across from Starky on submerged humps under lights from dark until I ran out of minnows about 1:30am. Cleaned 37 fish, mostly whites but did manage 2 nice hybrids, one 7lbs the other 9lbs. Big fish were caught on live bait but I also caught them on a white jigging spoon. Fish were suspended between 20 and 25 feet in 45 feet of water. Fished same area 7/31/2013 from 10pm until 3am and only caught 1 fish. Could see the fish and the shad on the locator, but only 1 bite all night, That is why it is called fishing and not catching.

Night fishing has been a tough bite the last couple weeks. They are either "ON" or "OFF". One night a 1/2 full cooler.... next night, a bunch of shorties and you pitch the lone 5# channel cat over the side. The weather hasn't helped much ( it's scattering them and making their behavior hard to read both day and night ). It's summertime on Beaver, so the bite will be what it is through August. I've had the best luck when I find a spot that doesn't get evening turnover and the water stays relatively clear along a bluff with sunken timber. I just remind myself that a bad day fishing is still better then a good day at work :)
