powerdive Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Two small trolling bags are vastly superior to one big one for stability and control, and they'll slow you down better too. Attach them to cleats on each side at the front third of the boat (just ahead of the windshield or console). Makes steering very easy, and speed consistent (and you can run downwind). Academy Sports has some modestly priced bags (14.95 each) that are superb for this--plus they're self-emptying, so you don't need to attach a second line to the nose. Well worth the investment.
wtr dogs Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Hit the water at 6:15 with Josh and wife. Boat back in barn @12;00 noon.. We trolled about all level and type of crankbaits from .3mph to 3mph with the wind at our back. We bottom bounced slow death rigs from 12 - 25 ft @ .5 mph. My best guess is the thermocline is about 23 ft. The only thing that let the skunk get of our hands were 2 bluegill one of which was caught on the GLUP SLOW DEATH ARTIFCIAL. YESTERDAY WAS GOOD FOR A SUNBURN! HEY, THANKS FOR THE INFO ON THE WIND SOCKS. Home of the the dam of 2009 AKC National Debry Champion.--AMMOAMMO
Members crankdragger Posted July 30, 2013 Members Posted July 30, 2013 If your having speed issues think about installing a Trol-a-matic trolling plate on your big motor. I have a 115 hp Opti on my boat and can troll down around 1.2 on a calm day at idle speed with no control issues. They are about $110 at Cabela's.
