Goggle-Eyed Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Put in at Lake Niangua and ran up to about a mile below the lower Lead Mine access yesterday. Fishing was "okay" but not what I would call great. On about my third cast I had a fat 15" LM blow up my Sammy and thought, holy crap it's gonna be a great day! Well that was my first and last topwater fish for the day. The bite was very slow all day but did manage to catch about 15-20 smallies and what could have been a mess of keeper goggle-eye. I would throw reaction type baits and if didn't get any takers would then throw soft plastics back in and usually pull out at least one fish from likely spots. I have really been trying to fish "faster" this year but this trip they just wanted it slow. Joe
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 What was the flow like down there Joe? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Greasy B Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Thanks for the report Joe, is there a public ramp on lake Niangua? His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Members delopez Posted July 16, 2013 Members Posted July 16, 2013 A couple of weeks ago, we were about a mile below the Bennet Springs access, just down from Sunset. We caught the hell out of trout, goggle-eye, and smallies (Well, my fishing partner caught the trout...I didn't do so well, trout fishing that day). I'd never had so much fun on the niangua. However, the day before (Saturday), the Aluminum-hatch was horrible. I could barely fire a cast off. We waded up from Barclay access to the first bend and fished it. It only produced one fish... However, I could have landed a floater or two
Goggle-Eyed Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 Wayne, the flow wasn't bad. I did have two "gravel" shoals that I bumped the jet foot on, both going up and coming down. Greasy, there is a public ramp on the "Macks Creek" Side of the lake. It is right by the darn and a long slow run to get to the river. There are a ton of stumps in the lake and you really need to know where the channel is if your going to run much above a no wake speed.
