brittsnbirds Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 I had a wild hair because of the nice weather over the Thanksgiving holiday. I thought I would popup down to BSP and do a little fishing. Then it hit me. Was the park closed to camping due to #1's renovation? Got on the internet site and checked. Yes sir it was. I have never stayed anywhere else but the park. I know there are other private locations but due to my lack of planning and spontaneity I missed out. Any one have suggestions. I will dry camp if I have to but would like to have electric.
McManus Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 I'd try Riverfront Campground -1-888-673-7668. Good luck. "Many go fishing all their lives without knowing it is not fish they are after." Henry David Thoreau

jdmidwest Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Although camping is great in the spring, summer, and fall, I prefer to camp at a local cheap motel in the winter. The trouble with most campgrounds in the winter is the shower house is closed. I use a tent or a popup camper without that luxury. I usually drive to the destination on Sat morning, fish all day, then go to a cheap motel for the night with a nice hot shower and a warm bed. I don't have to hassle with the camp gear and extra fuel costs, and spend more time on the water. With off season rates split between 2 people, it is almost as cheap as camping. I even take a single burner stove for cooking the evening meal if there is no restaurants close. dave potts Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 I generally stay at the Brentwood Motel at intersection of Hiway 5 and I-44. It's relatively cheap and is clean, and has good beds and cable TV. Also, there is a Hardees across the parking lot for coffee and/or breakfast in the morning. Dave
jjtroutbum Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 I forgot about http://www.vogelsresort.com/ this place is also close to Bennett. Just outside the park and is a little less expencive and nice also even tho they dont have a indoor pool like SandSprings mentioned in my last post Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. Members Jr25 Posted December 2, 2006 Members Posted December 2, 2006 If you decide to go the motel route, Ed & Kay @ Springview Fly Shop as well as Larry @ Larry's Sporting Goods both keep a few rooms open throughout the winter. I personally always stay in my 5th wheel when I winter fish, but only becuase it is located not a mile from the park year round. If I didn't have a perm site, I agree with the others in that it is just as cheap to stay in a motel. JR
