Good Afternoon all! We are planning on heading out to Lamar Lake this Saturday or Sunday morning to do a bit of fishing and I was wondering if anyone has fished it recently or has any tips/report for this lake? It's been about 2 years since I've fished it and at the time I was spending more time fighting wind then fishing. We're just happy to be out fishing so Crappie, White Bass, Largemouth, any of that would big great to hear about. Thanks in advance for any info! :)

I fished it last Saturday from about 11:00AM to 3:00PM. It was a little tough. The rain stopped a little after I started, so it wasn't too uncomfortable. The thing about wind on Lamar Lake is that I do much better when it's blowing. I did manage 2 bass on a spinnerbait early. I did throw a rat-l-trap when there was a little wind and caught 2 and lost probably the biggest fish I've ever hooked from that lake. I never saw the fish and it pulled 3 really hard times just about breaking my Lightning Rod. My drag was too tight so I could only hold on until it dove into sunken tree limbs and got off. 2 more fish jumped off at the boat on the trap. Nothing on the jig. If the wind is blowing pretty good I like to throw the trap parallel to the north bank. Just outside of the moss line. When they are there it can be a lot of fun.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Thanks for the info Buzz!! Appreciate the help!! We ended up boating a few Largemouth and 1 Crappie.. One of the Largemouth was a real nice fish. Of course my buddie had to catch it! The wind was pushing us pretty good and seemed that I was busier navigating around it than in the wind. Tried the jig, Rat-L, Plastic Craw, but to no avail. Ended up catching all of our fish on Shad Colored Square Bills in the middle section of the lake. I will hopefully head back out there soon and explore a few more spots I've found some good looking structure and maybe I'll get the big fish this time.

There are some big fish in there. A few years ago someone caught a huge bass. I can't remember the exact weight, but I think it was about 11 lbs.

Wow! 11lb's is a giant! I believe it though. I'll be back up there this weekend. Yeah, it's in Lamar... Heading North on 160 through Lamar pass through the main part of town to a grocery store on right. Turn Right before it and follow the road and signs to the lake. There are huge fish in there.I lived in lamar for 8 years before moving to stockton..This bass inhaled my buzzbait.I released it but seen it floating bout an hour later so i took it home.Never weighed it but it was a hog and tasted yummy. The 3 cats i caught one night in 10 minutes at midnight and that was all i needed.I caught 5 5-6lb bass in about 20 minutes on the north side of the lake in the grass by the dam.We had a ton of rain and the lake was way up and all the bass were laying in the tall grass that got flooded. One time on the gravel road on the east side of the lake i saw a fish that was every bit of 5 ft swimming around.I dont know what it was but it was long and skinny.I could only see it when it swam in a 25ft wide area that the sun was hitting.I threw a bunch of lures at it and it would turn the other way.Would love to find out what it was.Was fishing by the dock once and a guy loaded his boat onto his trailer and then he started digging in his truck and came out with his scales and pulled 2 10lb bass out of his livewell weighed them and then released em.

Thanks for the reply but I'm a little confused. Doesn't Rt. 160 run east/west through Lamar? Is the lake the one a few miles west of Highway 71 just south of Rt. 160 and has a small boat dock on it? My sister-in-law lives in Lamar so I sometimes go there and was interested in fishing the lake sometime.

Actually, I think I know which lake it is now that I think about it. It's the one on the east side of town that has the covered boat docks on it. I believe it is the city water supply lake. I've actually flyfished it many times from the bank as it is close to my sister-in-law's house. It's a great looking lake, just wished it had some rental boats on it.

Thanks,

Dave
