Guys this is the kind of rain I love for catfishing. Im laid up but if not I would be at Prairie Creek running catfish rods near the channel. Other spots are Monte Ne and Avoca. These rains in the past have really turned the catfish bite on the night after to two days after. I know its not a normal year but thought I would throw out the heads up.

I've been told the bass bite picks up also as the bass head to super shallow water when water rises a lot with cold rains. I say shallow but I mean shallow water near where they've been hanging out in deep water. They don't move onto big flats and backs of creeks or anything. I'm thinking small shallow flats on main lake and such.

What do you recomend for catfish? Stinkbait or shad? I'm not will to go catch bluegill and cut them up as bait.....takes too much time and effort.

Live bluegill or shad for blues and flatheads. Stink bait will normally only catch channel catfish. Beaver in my opinion lacks a healthy population of catfish. They are few and far between. For catfish try Dardanelle Lake.

If you want to buy bait gold fish work fine for flatheads and blues, I have even heard of big strippers being caught on gold fish. There might not be a lot of catfish in Beaver but it makes up in size for it lakes in quantity. I have straightened out some very strong hooks and broke 30lb test on some huge catfish around Prairie Creek.

I've heard of folks using goldfish. You mean just buy a bag full from Walmart? Lol

Also, is it considered invasive species to use goldfish? In case one escapes and lives. Wouldn't that cause eco problems?

There are 5lb gold fish in Beaver due to people using them for so long. Too expensive at Wally World and you get bigger ones at Hook, Line and Sinker. Believe me the bait shops would not sell them if it was even border line illegal.

Talk to the guys at HL&S about some of the fish people have brought back by after fishing with gold fish, they are full of good stories.

So what's the attraction with goldfish? What makes a catfish want one? Nose hooked right? Why wouldn't bass and other species feed on it equally?

Sorry.....new territory for me here.
