Quillback Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Had Jeb in the boat today, roaming the back deck. We launched at 0615, it's just starting to get a bit of light in the eastern sky at that time now, we fished a point close to Big M, not a bite, so we motored over to a secondary point that sets in between a couple of docks and got on a bite for a while. We were using bottom dragging stuff, c-rigged and t-rigged, Ol Monster, Ultravibe speed craws and the Megastrike Megabug. Dark colors were working, black/blue and green pumpkin. No bigguns at that spot, but we did boat a few 2 lb. largemouth. After that it got tough, flat calm for a bit and we worked hard for just a couple of bites. The wind picked up and we moved up to the Kings for a while, flipping jigs around cover, picked up a few shorts, except around 1030, out of the blue, Jeb hooked a big ol' bass on a finesse jig. Got it right up to the boat, the old brute got some air and threw the jig. Got a good look at it, it was an easy 6, maybe 7 lb. fish. Would have been nice to get it on the Boga and see what it weighed. Water temp was 79-81. A bit short of 20 bass between the two of us, about a dozen came in the first hour of the day.
Pepe Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 We (my wife, a buddy and myself) got out at 6:30 and hit several points. I caught a single keeper LM on a chatterbait, swimming it slow along bottom in 18'. We then stopped and fished near some docks where we saw some chasing. My wife & buddy caught more than a dozen on flukes. WM & smoke shad both worked. I was throwing topwaters at them with no luck. After 2 keepers in a row from the middle and back of the boat, I finally put the topwater away and picked up a grub. I guess it was my turn because I caught seven fish swimming a grub before the bite died.about 9:30. We fished till 11 but only caught a couple short fish between 9 & 11 AM Then it was yardwork time.

I've got to remember to try a fluke or grubs around docks.
jeb Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I did swim a twin tail grub around a bit, but not until mid-morning, I'd guess. Never got a bite on it, but maybe it needs to be fished earlier. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Pepe Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 With the storm and some business issues we got on the water late; about 12;30. We went up the Kings past the marina and worked bluff ends. It was slow but after trying DD Cranks, Warts & Spinnerbaits we finally got into some LM with Chatterbaits and skirted TT grubs. They were spitting crawdad parts with orange coloring. I worked the chatterbait like a jig & swimbait. They liked it best jerked off the rocks then swimming a bit. If they missed it they most often came back for it. We quit at 4:30 and only had about 6 LM and 2 spots. Most of the LM's were keepers but not much more. All were inside main lake cuts/coves in 12' to 18'.
