Members Jcvistait
This was told to me: While fishing at Taney I notice a guide with clients fishing the rebar hole. After a while of fishing the guide left only to return with more clients. After they got to the rebar hole the new guys replaced the ones that had been there. Here is what I think: Well I think thats not fair to the other people fishing in the area, waiting to get in that hole. I know the guides are trying to make money, but the area below the dam is only so big. That place is getting more crowded by the day.I really only have the weekends to fish and limited to wading. I know there are times down there when there is plenty of places to fish. But its getting to the point that my friends are not wanting to go there. We call it the Zoo. Sometimes outlet 2 looks like combat fishing. Something has to be done also to make it better around the outlets. They are getting filled in more and more. Just my .02 worth. LostMyWife
Man, if you think Taney is crowded you out to see Bennett Springs or Montauk. That's crowded. When you fish on public waterways you deal with everyone. That's just the nature of the beast. I'm not saying right wrong or indifferent, just facts. Steve Smith
You're going to see this everywhere, and there's not anything you can do about it. Go to any State trout park, and you'll see folks staked out on "their" holes an hour before the horn, along with folks we call campers who will setup lawn chairs to stake out “their” sweet spot. I have also experienced days when there were four or five of us total on the river, and guys have walked up within feet of where I was casting. It’s all part of fishing public water, and you just have to move on. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO

Members Jcvistait
Yes I know the trout parks are the zoo too. I understand about night fishing too,,,,love it. Last year in May I was there and I was the only one there. I was lucky then, but that time of the year there are less big fish in the system. Also to avoid the Zoo I hit Arkansas and have some good times there.
SilverMallard
There is almost always some good fishing that is not very crowded if you're willing to walk, scout, and cover some water to find good feeding lanes and lies. The reason it is so congested at the outlets and from rebar upstream is that most folks are not willing to do these things. They want it as easy as possible, and would rather complain about crowds than walk downstream. Frankly, rebar is nothing special and it is fished to death. And the full-contact fishing in the outlets reminds me of those fish ponds for kiddos at the county fair. LostMyWife
Now that is just going too far. How can you trash my fondest childhood memories of fishing. Every year I would stand around a 16 foot swimming poll full of trout. One big fish, 3oo,ooo small ones. Standing shoulder to shoulder with 400 screaming kids with a 2 foot rod and a zebco 202. Watching the red and white bobber go up and down and landing the big one. Then watching Dad cringe as he forks over $20 for an 8 inch fish. Ahhh. Those were the days. MOBass
When I started fly fishing a few years ago I would go down early and hit the outlets hard. As I learned more I found myself fishing the outlets less and less. There is a lot of water between outlet 1 and 2 and I can usually get a few fish by walking, stalking, and casting. It is fun to walk down just below outlet 1 and fish to outlet 2, get out, and then drop back in again below the war zone and fish on down to rebar. I like the walk and the extra space. Leonard
Jcvistait.. there are big fish in the area year around... the trick is to know where... and where to avoid other people.. yes the chutes will always have people in them.. yes a lot of people fish the head of the rebar.. fast water.. alot of fish and I think it is a staging area for spawning fish.. I wonder how many time a day those fished get hooked?? http://www.taneycomonights.com
