Bill Babler Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Due to the Corps. shut down Shell Knob's 34th. Homer Sloan Derby may have to either be shutdown or postponed. viable alternative launching points have been mentioned at either the Shell Knob bridge or off H Hwy. The ramp at H hwy would for sure hold all the trucks and trailers and should be considered. There is a new Chamber Director in Shell Knob and we are hearing she is struggling with logistics. Pretty tough call for her, but one that need to be made today in a decisive manner. Take it out to H and get her done. Usually about 50 boats so that ramp would eat it up. A decision needs to be made today. You got one, call the Shell Knob Chamber and lets get this deal done. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Members timr0123 Posted October 4, 2013 Members Posted October 4, 2013 Just pulled up the Chamber website and there's no updates on it. Whomever contacts them first tomorrow and finds out what they decided, please post on here asap. I've scheduled vacation for Saturday and I hate to waste it.
merc1997 Bo Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 i still say that we, the tax payers still own the lakes, parks, ect. there are never any attendents when i launch anyway. i really believe that push come to shove, the goverment can not legally shut down a facilty, which they do not own to begin with, just because there is not anyone there. next thought is for those that have purchased a yearly pass, the corp is breaking a binding contract. those passes are good 24/7. how about if every one requests a full refund?? if nothing else, i believe they can be taken to small claims court for not fulfilling a valid contract. i still say, just cut their lock or move their saw horses and go fishing. bo
Members lymorej Posted October 4, 2013 Members Posted October 4, 2013 I just heard this morning on Ky3 news that the tournament had been cancelled.

Members timr0123 Posted October 4, 2013 Members Posted October 4, 2013 lymorej, Just pulled up the Chamber site myself. I hope they can get it rescheduled soon.
Members lymorej Posted October 4, 2013 Members Posted October 4, 2013 Its aggravating when people make special arrangments and the day before the tournament they cancel. Gotta love the role government plays in our lives
Members timr0123 Posted October 9, 2013 Members Posted October 9, 2013 Globe article today stated that the Tournament committee scrambled and were able to secure alternate launch sites, a weigh in site and a location for the dinner, but the COE pulled their regatta permit at the last minute. Now that's a swift kick to the Committee's arse from the COE! Makes my blood boil. Absolute BS.
Bill Babler Posted October 9, 2013 Author Posted October 9, 2013 I believe that to be erroneous information. The COE does not control regatta permits. There were multiple tournaments that day besides the Homer Sloan. All went off as scheduled. The permits are controlled by the Missouri State Water ie Highway Patrol. Indecision and really lack of area and lake knowledge were perhaps more to blame. Be pretty hard to get it worked back in for this year. That indecision cost a lot of good folks time and money, including me. Both Beck and I took the day off to fish the derby and then they cancel it a day before. They should have called Steve at Indian Hills Resort. I don't believe they had guests and their dock would have easily handled the derby and it is just around the corner from the H-hwy ramp. Indian Hills also has a Huge convention center that would have more than handled the BBQ, and a wonderful boat ramp. You could launch 50 boats on their ramp in under an hour and with the H ramp around the corner you could have handled 100 boat derby no problem. We have ran 26 guide boats for corporate trips there many times and it handles it all no problem. Fantastic facility with great people. Bet they were never approached. If I'm wrong, and the chamber thought of that I apologize. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
