fishing sunday december 10

fishing was awesome. water was up and a little murky from the snow melt runoff but you could still sight the fish.(dont know how it will be tomorrow) anyway, started off up at the cable and was looking for some bigger ones. didnt find any so i headed down a little right where the river makes the long sweep to the right before making the long straight stretch. there were 3 fish around the big bolders that i guessed to be 4 lbs, 5lbs and 8+ lbs. i worked the 8+pounder for about 10 minutes. throwing various scud patterns. finally got him to take. fish started swimming right toward me so i was reeling in the line as fast as i could. he then turned and headed the other way(not extremely fast but fast enough with some power) my line got caught around my reel handle before i could free it. snap!! didnt see the fish the rest of the day. caught a couple other fish right in that area with the biggest being a 15-16 incher. worked downstream and spotted a few nice ones. saw 2 good fish by each other. made about 5 good drifts and had the bigger one on. there were alot of people around so i had to walk with the fish and go around about 5 or so people. finally netted the fish and measured 22.5 inches and had a 13 and 1/2 inch girth.(guessed her at 5-6 lbs) tried to take a pic but camera was acting up(when i would snap a pic, the camera would shut itself off-must have got water in it). after catching that one and helping a couple other fisherman get on some fish i headed down to bathroom hole. there was a huge school of fish piled up on opposite bank. there must have been 70+ fish in there but no big ones. i did throw into the school and fished for about 15 minutes, landing about 15 fish and missing about 30 hooksets. went back up and spotted another big fish. first drift i stuck it and finally netted it after flopping out of the net 3 times. it measured 25 inches and had a 13 inch girth(maybe a 5 and 1/2 lber.??) headed back up and spotted another huge fish (pushing 30 inches) this fish was in some slower water and spooked real easy. put a few good drifts on him but was too smart. there were alot of people walking by too which didnt help. all and all great day.

maybe i will see you down there wednesday. i plan on going then. my brother is going tomorrow so he can share with us the report. i just hope the water isnt too muddy. oh yeah, i put new batteries in my camera after the first big fish and got a couple pics of the second fish before my camera shut off again. i will try to post them tomorrow.troutgal, if you want to join wednesday we can meet down there. i will be in the big red dodge and plan on getting there at 7:30 am to get ready. its up to you though. just let me know

pmed you drew

now as for the fishing report for wednesday the 13th.

started at 9:30 and boy was the water high, cloudy, and fast. started off up by cable and did not spot anything worth while up there, so i headed down. fished the hole just before the long sweeping bend. i could see 3 or 4 real nice fish staging just behind the log that stretches across. i waded out a little and started drifting on them. got into fish quick. had a nice 20 inch bow on and then it took me out to the bolders and spit. then i landed a 15 incher along with 2 smaller 10 inch fish. right before i crossed i saw another nice one. second drift and the fight was on. got it right up to the net and it spit. guessing it was 22 inches or so. crossed the river where the log was(afraid i wasnt going to be able to with the current. walked down trying to spot a lunker(tough with the water clarity) spooked a couple and found a spot where 4 decent sized fish were sitting. you could see them feeding heavily coming up. i tied on an emerger and put just a tiny bit of weight on and caught 2 of the 4. put back on the famous scud and continued down river. caught a few here and there with no real size to them. went down to the falls where the bathroom hole was. long story short, i caught a rainbow and a brown that weighed app. 7 and 6 lbs respectively. the rainbow took me over the falls into my backing. it took a solid 10-15 minutes to land it. my line had wrapped around its gill plate so it took awhile to revive. she was fine though. walked back up catching a few others(one being right at 20 inches.)saw 2 other big fish. hooked one and it got off and got the other one for good. this was the brown that took me over the falls out past my flyline into my backing until i was almost out of backing. i was hugging the bank side(it was real deep) walking down with the fish. after about 15 minutes i finally managed to net this male just before the next set of falls.

continued from above post.

after landing that one i pretty much called it a day and headed back up. did meat troutgal and her dad. they are top notch people and let me tell you they can outfish just about any of the locals around. they had the ultralights and were doing awesome on a jig(i will let them tell you which one if they want you to have the secret) ;)

fishing is at its all time best from what i remember and you guys gotta get down and experience this. there are some 10+ pounders in the river right now
