Gatorjet Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 This article says they will be lowering Taneycomo to do repairs on Table Rock, but they don't say how long. http://www.hometowndailynews.com/17521/repairs_to_table_rock_powerhouse_will_lower_taneycomo.html Real men go propless!
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I wish they had given a hint of the timeline. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 24, 2013 Root Admin Posted October 24, 2013 One day. Actually 5 hours is what they told us. They're working on a turbine at Table Rock Dam. They'll start dropping it the night before and bring it back up later on Tuesday. No biggie.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 24, 2013 Root Admin Posted October 24, 2013 I was told it was Tuesday...
Dylan Cluver Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I called the number and was transferred to the dam, where I was told the draw down will actually be on the 5th of Nov, starting at 5 am. No one gripes about obese fish.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I'm having a hard time picturing the reason for the drawdown? Anyone know what effect Taney's level has on the TR dam? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Gatorjet Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 I'm having a hard time picturing the reason for the drawdown? Anyone know what effect Taney's level has on the TR dam? Strictly a guess, but if they are doing something on one of the turbines I would think maybe they don't have any kind of a backflow gate. That would allow water from Taney back into the turbine. Like I said, just a guess. Real men go propless!
Members troller Posted October 25, 2013 Members Posted October 25, 2013 According to KY 3 News the work is being done on the powersite dam which would probably make more sense.I wouldn't think the deep pool below the TR dam wouldn't drain even if they drew down 5 ft.
Gatorjet Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 From the Corps of Engineers press release that I posted the link to in post #1 "The Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District will repair the Table Rock Powerhouse water release system Monday, Nov. 4 requiring Lake Taneycomo to be lowered to an elevation of 696.5 feet." http://www.hometowndailynews.com/17521/repairs_to_table_rock_powerhouse_will_lower_taneycomo.html Real men go propless!

That makes sense. I couldn't imagine how a turbine would be effected by the downstream side water level. I imagine the gravel bed is deep enough to drain much of the pool below the dam. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
