Members Luke918 Posted November 14, 2013 Members Posted November 14, 2013 I am fairly new to the area and wondering if anyone can give some insight on hunting Upper Bull Shoals anywhere from Forsyth down to the MO/AR border? As far as simply is it allowed and any special notes/restrictions I should be aware of -- other than standard hunter safety and good hunter etiquette? Thanks Appreciate any info.
duckydoty Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Waterfowl hunting is allowed in the area you are talking about. I hunt it a lot. Do some scouting and find where the ducks want to be. Google earth really helps a lot, but you still need to scout to see what the water levels are compared to the satellite view on Google Earth. Look in the Beaver Creek area down to K dock. You should find some fun stuff there. Being able to hide is the most important thing. See ya out there! A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Members Luke918 Posted November 15, 2013 Author Members Posted November 15, 2013 Been getting out for more fishing this fall then I was able to in spring and summer. The scouting part has been done while fishing this fall... that is what peaked my interest due to the amount of ducks I inadvertently jump when fishing coves and coming around points onto flats with willows. I know, or at least think, you can't hunt from moving boat... so thinking of doing the same thing I did when stationed in Nebraska (pulling the boat up on the bank setting out some decoys and laying back and waiting -- was successful there on "fishing" lakes where most duck/goose hunters were out in the farm ponds and/or fields. Yeah and understand the hiding part may be more difficult here along the bank without much vegetation and rock/sand/mud bluffs -- whereas the big lake I fished north of Omaha had lots of shoreline vegetation... camo cloth and machete to gather cat-9-tails, 5 minutes and you were invisible. Thanks for the input Dusky probably will see you out there.
JohnP Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Ducky pretty much said all that needs to be said. Your right in that you can't hunt from a moving boat thats under power. Most of my hunting is from the bank with the boat hidden or parked 100 to 200 yds down the bank since I don't have a blind on the boat. Bull Shoals is pretty much hit or miss and as long as the farm ponds aren't froze it can be slim pickins. once they freeze up it'll pick up on the lake, atleast that's what I've seen over the past 15 years. Good luck and if you see a camo 1860 G3 with a 90 hp Yamaha good chance that'll be me as Bull Shoals is about all I hunt when the south zone opens up, give me a shout.
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 You shouldn't have too much trouble finding cover, the lake is slightly past the old full mark. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
