Dutch Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I've used both and never lost any on either. However, when I am fishing It on the bottom or around cedar trees I use the braid so I can wrap the line around a boat cleat and pull it out if necessary.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I won't address the line, but I will the backlash. Removing a backlash by picking has been the accepted method for many long years, but for braid it doesn't work all that well. For braid put your thumb on the spool and hold it as tight as possible and then pull on the line until you can't pull it any tighter. After this start pulling the line off of the spool. This sounds crazy, but it does work. What happens is the thin, slick braid tends to straighten itself out and you then end up with line wrapped too tight, but not bound. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members basscat123 Posted January 11, 2014 Members Posted January 11, 2014 Alex, in your opinion. Do you like the 15 floro because just pure invisibility or easier depth control or easier castability? Or other reasons?
Members Topwater TRL Posted January 12, 2014 Members Posted January 12, 2014 A cheap pair of leather gloves is a great thing to have in the boat when using braid and pulling on those hung up a-rigs. Topwater TRL
Alex Heitman Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I like the 15 lb fluro because I think the fish see to less than the braid. They will still hit the a rig if you are using braid but I've found you will catch more when using the fluro. Also if you are fishing deep to will get down better but if you still like using the braid you can just add bigger jig heads.

I suppose anything round and smooth enough to protect the braid would work. Just throw a few wraps of the line around it and you have a handle that will allow you to apply a lot of pressure. Members basscat123 Posted January 12, 2014 Members Posted January 12, 2014 Thanks Alex, I assumed that was why you used the 15 floro. I will give that a try and is an interesting thought. I have read where others are using higher pound test floro for the same reasons but, just hadn't broke down and tried it. Thanks for the insight
