Brian K. Shaffer Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Certain sections of C/C fish better than others.. here is a wild goose chase map leading to a section that holds tremendously big fish in a large pool.. like nothing you will have ever seen before. As if you were heading from Mtn Home towards that town with the famous restaurant - there is a sign of a cow.. says something like "Eat Beef" which can only be seen travelling the opposite way. Right before this sign is the turn to the left. ( or after you see the sign, its on the right - there on the right, immediately if you're coming from the opposite way) Travel this road until you get to know you are rising in elevation.. and then there is this railroad track you must cross as a sharp right turn. Park down to the left before the tracks and get rigged there. Walk the tracks upstream until you see the trail, leading down to the water. Its on your left. Walk down the trail.. cross the creek and fish the lower section of the creek, from the right. - I know - this is a goosechase.. but if you find it - you will be pleased. tight lines - Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

How about another hint?
Brian K. Shaffer Posted December 28, 2005 Author Posted December 28, 2005 HINT : This section of the Creek is below the town of Harrison. ( sorry.. I couldnt resist that ) I will find the name of the road that you turn off of 62 (i think that's 62) and get back at ya. best fishes - Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 28, 2005 Root Admin Posted December 28, 2005 Google Earth Searched Yellville, Ar. Country rd 405 is the only road I see that would fit the description. The RR marking on GE are wacky so I'm not sure. But the road does travel along the river alittle bit. It appears to be about 10 miles from YVille.
Members Arkamo Traveler Posted December 30, 2005 Members Posted December 30, 2005 Brian, have you ever eaten at the famous restaraunt? I like to sit on the front porch when I'm there. (am I on the right track?)
Brian K. Shaffer Posted December 31, 2005 Author Posted December 31, 2005 lilley - i am gonna go with this til its figured out.. til you and I or someone else and I find this spot, whichever comes first. You were right in your search though.. close.. very close. Nicely played Arkamo. The restaurant mentioned is and has a front porch for dining onto. They do serve great food too.. as noted, they have been recognized in some kind of magazine. i own the issue.. of some food magazine.. noting the chicken fried steak.. or breakfast.. or .. ? The turnoff road to land you possibly into this secret spot, as lilley mentioned, is noted by Goggle Earth.. but if you still can't find it.. take some more time to goggle all the happenings on C/C. If you find this spot - it will as you have seen before, nice looking water. Keep walking. best fishes - Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 1, 2006 Root Admin Posted January 1, 2006 You remember stopping with me years ago on the way back from the White... you thought there was a spot to fish but there were too many trees and not much water. That isn't the spot is it? It was close to a bridge but I don't remember tracks.
Danoinark Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 I might have this figured out....if not, then I gotta be close..... Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"

Members FJ80 Posted January 3, 2006 Members Posted January 3, 2006 Brian, The sign has either been taken down, or is extemely hard to see. I passed through this weekend and figured I would take a picture, but no luck. What is all of the fuss about Crooked Creek?? Hasn't it seen its better days. Long way to drive to catch a bronze back when you don't have to go nearly as far to equal one right here close. Adventures are always fun though and if one really wants to learn about Crooked Creek, Duane Hada gives a nice little talk on the subject. The creek has seen a lot of abuse and with the increased poultry operations in the basin, it will be interesting to see what happens in the future. A very positive thing that has happened is the building of a conservation education center at Kelly's slab. A landowner donated 400+ acres to the AGFC to build this center along with hiking trails and outdoor classrooms for school groups. It is an awesome piece of property that you must go and visit. Kudos to the landowner for turning down loads of $$$ to donate the land for future conservation efforts.
