Fishin Hodge Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 feel your pain with optimax mine has left me trolling back 3 of my last 5 trips last one cost me at least 2nd in the dec. 28 bassothon. one new lower unit later and it ran half a day and decided it wouldnt start, lucky me more $$$$. Is your Opti a 2000 - 2004 model? I had the lower unit go (very fortunately under warranty); Something about a top seal popping out because Merc basically didn't secure the seals in those years? Sounds like the blues are fairly sporadic for most of us, but boy they make a run when you hook one.
Members ericangler Posted February 13, 2014 Members Posted February 13, 2014 2000 model and the seal popped two years ago and the mechanic caught it while it was in for not starting so he super glued the new ones in had oil in it this time just its time to go i guess. boats been in the shop for not starting since jan 20th i guess they dont work if there is any snow on the ground, maybe have her back by the basscat tourny.
Mike Worley Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I just started fishing Bull Shoals and am curious if there are blue cats in the area between Powersite dam and K dock? I've caught a few blue cats in past years from Tucker hollow down to the Bull Shoals dam with most coming from the Diamond City to the dam area. Seems to me like blues travel more in pods or small schools out in open water. Lots of large blues were caught in the 1980's & 90's by jug fishermen mostly along bluff banks suppended in the main channel often 20'-30' down over 80'-100' fow. I know a few jug fishermen that know what they doing and they say the bluecat population is not what it use to be. On the bright side AG&FC has started restocking them in the lake. I know the blues that were raised in the Pot Shoals net pens near pt.16 in earlier years returned to cause trouble by ripping holes in the nets. It was quite a sight to watch these huge bluecats (some close to 100 pounds) tearing at the pens containing trout. I know for a fact that many of these large blues were trapped & removed from the lake.
