hoglaw Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 A friend on the board told me they have jackpot tournaments at Swepco on Saturday mornings during the winter. I'd love to fish one (including this Saturday) if anyone wants to go. I have a 21x56" trout boat with a 90 jet and a good trolling motor, but was hoping to ride in someone's bass boat if anyone is inclined to go do it. I'll be happy to cover gas and split the entry fee. I don't know much about the lake other than catfishing it a few times so I don't contribute much aside from good company and sharing expenses. If anyone wants to give it a shot, please let me know.
J-Doc Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 A buddy of mine just finished a series over there. How many tournaments are there in the series you're talking about? I'd like to but can't. My wife has to work Saturdays for a few hours. I might could do a couple though. For the fun of it. I do know a few things about the lake. It can be super tough or super easy. Need marine repair? Stump bumper Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I did one of those back about two years ago, when the sun is just coming up and the water is warm the fog is thick and the only safe place to be is on the ramp. How no one has died there in those early morning free for all is a mystery to me but not a fun time IMO. Then I am old and don't do well in crowed noisy places anymore........ Keep your life jacket on until the sun is high in the sky if you go. I would be happier getting skunked on Beaver with a cove to myself then winning a jackpot in that crowd.
J-Doc Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 The fog is not that dense anymore. Water temps are in the 60's now that the discharge is not putting out as heavily anymore. I haven't been to an early launch there in a while but I've seen fog last all day there before. In the last few trips, there was no fog in sight. Not even at the discharge. Anyone crazy enough to go full bore into a fog thick lake is begging for trouble. Anyone stupid enough to be off plane in the middle of it is definately asking for trouble. At least fish a shoreline or as close to the bank as possible until fog lifts. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! Quillback Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Is there enough room to park on Saturday mornings? It used to be you could park in that field across from the entrance, if the lot was full, but it's fenced off now. I always fish that lake during the week, and even then some days the lot fills up.
hoglaw Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 I don't know any details and completely understand crowd and safety concerns. Just had a Saturday free for the first time in a while. I'll probably either fish my buddy's lake over near Siloam or go play Omaha at the elks lodge
J-Doc Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 In all honesty, the weather will be so terrible this weekend, I don't think anyone will miss much of anything if they didn't go. Although I'm dying to get out there. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. Hojo Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I have fished a couple of them and there was no fog to speak of. Overcrowding.....that's a different story. The field is open again, I parked there last week. I'm guessing close to 50 boats there last Sunday.
J-Doc Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Us taking about it is really making me wan to go. We need to cut this crap out! LOL Need marine repair?
