Members JDP Dawg Posted February 15, 2014 Members Posted February 15, 2014 Going out to ten killer lake and the LIR on Monday and this website has taught me A LOT about the water levels and the Dam. My gear and tackle is all geared for bass fishing and catfish in California and I have only fished for trout with live bait, salmon eggs, and recently power bait. I am new to Oklahoma and have only done a little trout fishing at lake Watonga. Fishing on the LIR I want to try using some artificial lures. If anyone has any recommendations on what a bass fisherman should use to ease into becoming a noobie trout fisherman send me a shout out. Got a lot of crappie type jigs and bass lures and the like. I'm not interested in fly fishing. Want to use some conventional bait and lures to start. - JDP Dawg
BFTMASTER Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 We do really well with Rapala cd-1 through cd-9 in all trout colors (rainbow, brook and brown) Slower the water smaller the number countdown. 3/32 oz marabou jigs in olive or sculpin or orange with brown Colorado spoons But if the water is completely off you had better have a ultralight rod with 4lb line or less and fish small lures.
Members JDP Dawg Posted February 16, 2014 Author Members Posted February 16, 2014 Thanks for the advice! That's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. And I have 6lb on the reel so I'll change to 4lb. Water should be off for the times I'll be out. - JDP Dawg

I mainly fly fish anymore but will add gold and black rapala and firetiger pattern to the above mentioned crank baits. Brook trout pattern has caught me more fish but patterns vary at times. Nick Williams Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Rooster tails, smaller sizes of course. If the water is and off colored I have had the best luck with white. Edit: Guess I was a little late though! - Nick
