Members Lead Head Posted February 20, 2014 Members Posted February 20, 2014 Old State Park was still iced in solid this afternoon. I could see ice about half way out of the cove toward the bridge, still pretty thick at the ramp but there is a little open water right next to the bank. Most of the ice was gone around the mile long bridge but there was a few chunks floating around in the open water.
Members Haulin Bass Posted February 20, 2014 Members Posted February 20, 2014 HEY FISHING GUIDE? When you say the Crappie are hitting under the shad, does that mean you use a spoon, or a jig? Are you sinking live bait? And, so when you find a shad ball, what do you start with? Been on top of shad, and thrown every piece of junk I have at them, and never seemed to pull any up. Just need a suggestion. THANKS! HB
Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Haulin, when i locate schools of shad i will use a 1/8 oz jig and a 2" grub and drop it down into the shad or just under them. sometimes you will see the fish above the shad, but most of the time i find them in the shad or under them. today they were on the bottom in 50 foot of water. maybe it's just the way i like to do it, but during the winter, i don't move the jig hardly at all. i hold it really still and wait to feel any weight, bump etc then set the hook. the fish are not very active so they are looking for an easy meal. I have to finish the stuff for the seminar tomorrow night, and have to deal with a KCMO inspector up in KC on friday, but if you get out next week one day give me a call and if i'm around maybe we can meet up on the lake. very few shad in googer today, but it did hold enough for dinner!! Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 I put in at mutton creek (north side of cove) today. it was iced in when i got there, but i got mad and put the boat in on the ice then ran the motor for a while to clear out some ice. made a path out to the main lake and got to fish for a little bit. Someone else did bout the same at ruark bluff, and 2 boats put in there. I think about 4 or 5 of us fished out of mutton creek today. I did hear that old state park was still froze and so was cedar ridge. Members charliehorsejigs Posted February 20, 2014 Members Posted February 20, 2014 A friend of mine at work got a phone call today and was told that the bass tournament on Lake of the Ozarks for this weekend was cancelled. They told him it was iced up from one dam to the other and some of the ice was measured at 11 inches thick. I'm still going up there tomorrow with my son and his friends to try the heated docks. Will post when we get home saturday. Tight lines everyone and be safe out there.
Football Head Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 We also cancelled our club tourney at Stockton this week
