Al Agnew Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Tanvat is exactly right...the Lamar is still pretty heavily grazed by the bison, and the wolves aren't keying on them much. The Lamar Valley pack once had more than 20 wolves, but is now much smaller. Lamar Valley is high and gets a lot of snow, and doesn't melt quickly, so there's a shorter growing season there as well. There is a small fenced off study plot in the Lamar Valley, which is full of brush and aspens, and shows what it all would look like with no grazing, but that's not exactly natural, either.
grizzly Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I need to get back to Yellowstone, I love it there. I was hoping to get there this summer but that appears to have fallen through. I have been there twice and have seen all sorts of wildlife except for a wolf. They are the coolest animal in my opinion.
Al Agnew Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Yeah, our place in Livingston is only an hour from the park, and we visit it at least once a week when we're there, except during the summer, when it's crammed with idiot tourists. If you have the chance, visit it in September. You'll still encounter quite a few people, but the autumn colors are great and the animals are in prime condition.
