In the latest Fly Tyer magazine, there is an article by Mike Hogue called "The Ozark Mountain Streamer". He stated it was from the Roaring River area, but found out later it was an Ozark standard for many years before his dad fished it in his youth. It is basically a black and yellow blood marabou streamer. Anyone ever used it or know Mike Hogue.

Sounds just like the "marabou" flies they sell at Roaring and bennett. It's just a black plume and a yellow plume tied side by side.

Yep, I tie, & use them all the time, it is a very old pattern, they will take trout just about anywhere, work great

at all the parks, and I use the in olive, brown, & black/yellow on taney, I fish em a lot like I fish a soft hackle.

What size do you tie them in?

I saw that too. Cool article and local reference. I'll have to tie up a few.

Not really. This is traditional streamer with fuzzy body and a tensil/wire banding. The marabou is used for a wing (tied in the front of the fly on at the feather base) instead of bucktail. The author recommends blood marabou, but only the thin or fine straight feathers where we would use the fuzzy ones. I assume the straight feather help it act more like a wing.

I looked online, but can't find a pic anywhere. Tim can you post a pic of the ones you use?

I think I'm going to tie some up for the winter fly swap before I send packages out. I think you could use them for pond water also.

I caught my first trout out of RR on a similar streamer, it was red, orange, yellow. I do remember that 'bou streamers were popular. I also brought some deadly royal coachman for my first trip, but apparently those hillbilly trout didn't know they were deadly.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
