On The Fly 6 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I wasn't disappointed in the number of people at the park yesterday, nor was I disappointed in how many kids there were running around (Boy Scout Troops from OK). However; I was disappointed in how many people I saw fishing zone 3 with things other than flies. It seemed as though no one gave any regard to the special restrictions for fishing that specific area. Did I miss something? Was it a special day, where you could fish whatever you wanted anywhere you wanted to? Quillback Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I drove past the park yesterday about 11:30 towing my bass boat. You are right about a lot of people being out.
timsfly Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Zone 3 you can fish anything you want, above the dam up to the mouth of dry Holler is zone 2. Missouri has a wide definition of what they consider a fly to be. Lots of lures are legal in zone 2, best thing to remember about zone 2 is, no rubber baits, no plastic baits, and no treble hooks, and that will keep you mostly out of trouble Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
On The Fly 6 Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Ok, then I was mistaken about the zone number. I was in zone 2, not 3. I saw numerous anglers using power eggs and worms. Members fullmetalman Posted May 20, 2014 Members Posted May 20, 2014 yeah i talked with the "ranger" from roaring river in very early spring.he said rooster tails are kosher as long as they are single hook. no plastic, rubber, fresh or dough bait allowed in the fly zones. They sure don't police it like they should in my opinion.
BFTMASTER Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I usually politely offer some advice to those using illegal baits. I tell them that I went to jail for a month back in the 90's for using illegal baits in Zone 2. Just kidding, but I do tell people in a nice way that the bait the are using is illegal. Some people get really offended and want to argue. The people who just don't know and are calm, I will offer to help show some methods and share some lures with them. Many times in the 30 yrs my family has been going there, the people we have helped drop by our camp later to thank us
