Members cReekFishin Posted April 5, 2014 Members Posted April 5, 2014 I was planning to head down to Galena tomorrow to see if I can catch some whites. I've heard a lot about Blunks Hole but never been. I'm assuming it's off of Blunk road. Is this a good place to fish from the bank? Also, are there any other good holes in that area? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
duckydoty Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Good place to fish from the bank and yes it is right at the end of Blunks Road. You can walk up the dirt trail to Taylor Shoals and that too is a good place to fish from the bank or you can walk down to the bluffs below Blunks and fish from to bank. Bubbas Dad Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Yes it is at the end of Blunk Rd. You can fish from the bank there. If you have waders I would suggest them not knowing what the water level is there right now as I have not been over there this spring yet. But they are not necessary to fish there. I have heard the fishing is HOT there right now!!!!!!
Members cReekFishin Posted April 5, 2014 Author Members Posted April 5, 2014 Thanks guys. Hope this cooler weather didn't slow them down too much. Ducky, I just happened to watch a YouTube video from blunks with you in it.
Fishslayer88 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 It was a little slow today but as soon as it got dark they hit pretty good at the shoal above blunks.
Members cReekFishin Posted April 6, 2014 Author Members Posted April 6, 2014 Fishlayer, that seems to be the key, is to be down there when it's dark. I got down there right after sunrise and saw lots of people leaving with stringers full of whites. I started to think that it was going to be a great day. I was wrong. Fished for three hours with nothing to show for it. Lots of people fishing but I only saw 2 fish caught. Gonna try to go back Tuesday night.
Micheal Kyle Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Night time is the right time!!! To me the best time to fish is between 11-3, with the full moon coming it is going to get insane I would make sure to make it down next week with water conditions and clarity the fish are going to be on fire!! Members pt1 Posted April 10, 2014 Members Posted April 10, 2014 Does anyone that knows more about white bass than me; which is probably everybody on here; think the bite will still be pretty good in a week and a half from now? Or that the dawn, dusk or daytime bite will be on then. Can't fish at night due to work schedule. Anyway, I can't get my boat up and running until then and my son and I walked and walked and fished til our arms were tired from the bank with no success this past Monday evening. Meanwhile we watched everybody in boats catching them along the opposite bank. We didn't even get a bit right below the riffles. I also really don't care much for the ramp, road and parking situation at Blunks; any other suggestions of where a better ramp to launch and still get up there in within a reasonable distance. Any white bass tips period would be great. Thanks in advance guys.
Fishslayer88 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 They are spawning now the day bite sucks but last night 9:30-10:30 we caught 30.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 If they are spawning the end is near for the run. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
