Used to be fun at BSSP . Exciting just to be there. Parking lot across from old park store was always packed . People everywhere. Spillway to bridge packed. Both sides . Just to go down and see Susie Saunders was worth the trip from Stl . Now go down and see empty parking lots . No 2 lb avg fish size. Now have to see a fat. Wman in a field trying to teach fly fishing . Love the place myself . What the hell happened . Big money or greed . I have been going to bssp for close to 40 years now . Changes seem for the worse every year. What the hell.

I'll always love the place I learned to fish at as a kid. To many good memories I guess. I have not been down in 7 months , I guess, so things might have changed.

Jerry,

It changed last year in the quality of fish went down hill drastically. The park hasn't changed much since the last few years with the exception of the normal progression towards becoming the Branson of trout fishing. You know. A tourist trap where novice fishermen come to learn how to trout fish and have to buy everything they need from the park concessionaire. Lodging, float trips, souvenirs, tackle, snacks, and on and on.

But having said all of that, I still enjoy being there with good friends and having a good time.

Smaller fish? Time to break out the 2 wt! Seriously, I have fished a Colorado stream years ago and a 10 inch Brookie was a nice fish.

Why don't we all suggest for a donation box by the rearing pools to buy extra feed for the hatchery fish ?

Raise the price of the tags a dollar. Total of $4.00 is still ridiculously cheap. If people can't afford 4 bucks a day to fish then they need to pick up something cheaper. I can't figure what that may be.

Guys I don't think that having enough money is the issue. I think they are allotted enough money for operations, but possibly do not manage it well. I personally would not put a dollar in a drop box because I feel like they would just piss it away as well. Raising the price of a tag just gets them off the hook and buys them some breathing room for another season. Next year they would come up with another excuse as to why they spent all of their money and didn't get any thing done.

Laker I don't know where the problem is either with money handling. But I do know just sitting around complaining about it is useless without coming up with ideas to possibly fix it.

I know without a doubt that this all can be fixed in a short period if the right people and tools are put in place. Sometimes heads need to roll. If the people in charge of the people that are failing aren't aware of the problems they may need replacing as well. The problem here is that you have people that don't live in the risk and reward life. When you get money from a source that is already allotted you have no clue what risk even is. Like any other government owned or state owned entity they haven't a clue of what it takes to run a successful business.

If they had to run the hatchery operation on a business type model they would put out a better product. But when your paycheck is set in stone you don't have to produce in their situation.

Somebody needs to be replaced if they can't get it done. Plain and simple.

I say put in a petting zoo and a ferris wheel and make it an amusment park. The clowns are already in place .
