Dylan Cluver Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I have never caught one, and would at least like to mark it off the list. I don't fish the james by boat, can I guy do it from shore? Have you guys seen them going up river? No one gripes about obese fish.
Fishslayer88 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I caught this one off the bank on friday in MCcord bend. They are thick about half a mile below blunks right now if we get some muddy water with this rain they will start running up the river more you could probly get on them at blunks any day now if you can keep from getting hung up.

MeatintheFreezer Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 nice spoony! Remember - If at first you DO succeed, try not to act surprised & quit while you're ahead.
Fishslayer88 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I use a 9 ft heavy-duty spinning rod with 80-100lb braid and two 10/0-12/0 trebble hooks set about 18 inches apart and a 6oz weight another 18in below that. If im in a place that has a lot of snags or is hard to cast a long two hook rig I will use just one hook.
Seth Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 We use 9-12' surf rods with 65# Power Pro with two 10/0 hooks and a 4oz weight on the James. The first hook is 1-2' above the sinker and the next hook is 4' above the first hook. If the fish are crammed in to a hole up river where it narrows, then one hook works fine.
Members Jeff Burkhart Posted April 14, 2014 Members Posted April 14, 2014 We are headn that way when I get off work this eve. Id say after the rain we had yesterday and last night they will start running up. Has anyone been yet today?
Fishslayer88 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 They were still rolling in the bend today. I was mushroom hunting though.
navery Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Can a boat comfortably make it to blunks? I have a deep v and will save gas if I can't get there. Also is anyone still getting them down at cape fair or have they pretty much moved up past the bridge there? Thanks!
Fishslayer88 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 You can make it to blunks fine just dont go up past the ramp. They are stacked up about 3/4 mi below blunks right now.
