myself and jrbhc8 went down today but had to call a day short because he had his own things going on and my sister flew in from maryland.

anyway to the fishing report:

started off where log stretches across water. john was working a 6 lber above and i was working a 5-6 lber below. couldnt hook up to either fish. headed down and caught a few smaller ones. found a real nice rainbow that was active moving in and out of its feeding lane. hooked it second drift and had it on for about 5 seconds and spit. est 8 lb fish. the big ones were harder to find today. anyway to sum it up before we left i got into a real nice rainbow(25 inch 8 lber)pics to follow. caught another one about 4 lbs but the sliipery thing got away before john could snap pics. spotted another one but we really had to get going so we didnt get the time to fish like we planned.

here is the 8 lber. i think you will like the markings on this fish

Awsome fish, wish I came that morning liked I planned.(had to go to Stl this afternoon)Very rare to see a rainbow with that nice of color up that far in the park.My guess is she came up from the trophy area to drop her eggs.I think that is the most colorful bow I have seen come out of them waters.Noticed the bright orange color gill showing true spawning colors. Gratz

Still pissed about the one that got away!!!

That photographer sure knows what he's doing. LOL The picture turned out better than I expected.

Nice fish, hopefully I can find some more time to go after them again before school starts back up.

This is not the case with this fish you caught but has anyone else noticed many of the larger rainbows at Maramec with beat up faces? Is this from running into the concrete sides of the hatchery or something else?

Alot of the bigger fish you see beat up on the nose and head area is not from hitting the concrete walls.(some hatchery fish do have marks from walls) But from gathering food.Alot of larger fish will actually use their heads to flip rocks and move gravel in search of food. That explains why you see alot of big fish without a scratch on it's body but marks on their head. Some bigger wild trout like in Maramec River (trophy area) will actually chase crawdads and when they hide under rocks... Thats when their heads become a tool to help them catch their food.Hope that answers your ? :)
