Members stitch Posted April 28, 2014 Members Posted April 28, 2014 Do any of ya'all crappie fish that far upstream? Are there any coves in particular that we should check out? I know how to catch em and know where to look for them this time of year, just dont know the lake at all yet. Is Turkey Creek any good? Our place is at MM 81 across from the Oarhouse. If anyone can give me any suggestions so I dont waste a ton of time and boat gas I'd appreciate it. Well be down this coming weekend. Thanks!
Members BHowe Posted April 29, 2014 Members Posted April 29, 2014 Turkey creek is really good this time of year. Go across the flats and head around to the left. There's a bunch of little coves that hold crappie. But the best I found is Cole Camp creek and mile or so down steam on the left (across from the dome hole). After you get through the no wake zone there's a good area to the left along the bank. Somebody years ago sunk some tires. If you head a mile or so up the creek, it cuts across to the left just past the scout camp. That hole bank all the way up on the left along the bluff is awesome fishing. On up a half mile or so from there you will see a nice house that sits back off the creek, it's on a right hand turn. The bank on the right is what I called the green hole (about 15' deep or so) along a bluff. This is the best fishing in the whole area. The key to catching the fish in that area is finding down trees or roots in the channel. Those crappie will be on those logs for sure. Good luck
Members stitch Posted April 30, 2014 Author Members Posted April 30, 2014 Thats got me excited now. I definitely know how to catch crappies, but dont have a lot of experience fishing them on whats more or less a river system, and I wasnt really wanting to spend half the day in the boat heading to the "lake". Turkey Creek and Coal Camp creek are both real close.
