Evolution Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Fishing (whitebass) was good for me today (4/28) but combat fishing, not so much. Topwater is starting to heat up as I got into some good action along with everyone else. While everyone was using your average spooks, I went outside the box and used something else and found success unless you happen to be in the right spot or had the preferred colored spook. Caught a few whites on a jerkbait but couldn't put down the topwater lure once it started biting. If it wasn't so windy today, it would have been a perfect day but managed what I could. Gave up early around 7pm since it was too windy and "fishermen" started to crowd around me. Everyone was lined up on the east side from the gate to the end of the rocks, just wiggle yourself in and have at it.
Members Wahoo61 Posted April 30, 2014 Members Posted April 30, 2014 Sorry I have not posted. Fished Sunday. Gate side got down late about 7 a.m. The three kids on the point were catching the occasional white bass and maybe one hybrid. I caught a few whites. The kids left about noon and we moved towards the point (I was third guy). Had a big rain and wind storm move through. As the rain softened, we went back out and it was on (about 2-4:30). I caught about 15 hybrids, I kept 4 and the they were from almost 9 to 10.4. Caught a few big whites. Hitting on a Chartreuse Super Spook (others) and I was catching mine on a bone colored Vixen topwater. I left about 4:30 as it started to get crowded. The fishing was still hot. It appears the evening bite has been best from what I gathered from others who had been fishing. I fished the Wed. before that and took home about 12 hybrids, did not weigh the biggest, but caught some short fish to fill out the stringer. I had 4 overs and probably the biggest was 9lb.
Members Pelican07 Posted May 30, 2014 Members Posted May 30, 2014 I have been to the Truman Dam in the past two weeks about 5-6 times and have been catching my limit of white bass with Zara Spook Jr top water lures, and Little Cleo silver/blue spoons! Early morning and late in the evening is best for the top waters, just walk-the-dog on them. Spoons go decent throughout the middle of the day when top waters slow down. One of my favorite places to fish at! Don't feel like catching white bass? Grab two dozen minnows, and set up a regular bobber, split shot, and hook set up with a minnow on the end and enjoy a day of catching crappie. Good luck!! Biggest one was 20 inches and about 4-5 pounds!
Kayser Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I tried fishing that area once last summer, got two crappie on a spoon and missed two whites on walk the dog baits. Was fishing just below the dam. It seemed like they never got close enough to the bank reliably cast to them. Any suggestions for that area, or just take a boat? WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.

Hog Wally Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Can't get close to dam in a boat. I haven't done very well there myself. Seen a guy catching the heck out of them though. He was using surf rods. And really big lures.
Members Pelican07 Posted May 31, 2014 Members Posted May 31, 2014 You can't take a boat right next to the dam but you can catch your limit of white bass off the shore as well as crappie. Recently i have been catching them on top waters and spoons. Look at others and how they are fishing the top waters and learn from them. Good luck!
