I want to know what's past the point of no return... when you give them your cc# and then you have to take what they give you. Are they trustworthy? I mean do they give you a good rate or a couple of bucks below the quoted rate?

Thanks for the help.

Phil,

Once your price has been accepted, you are commited. That being said, I've always been satisfied with what I've received. I've stayed at some top of the line places for very little. I've even been upgraded to a suite at the check in desk because the room I booked wasn't available.

Never been a problem for me.

I just do not trust buying things on line. I know people do it all the time but I was one of the one's that had there information stollen from the VA. If you remember that dumby taking his files home with him and having them stolen. I was lucky in that they didn't know what they had and I lost nothing so far. Ron

You have a point... but I do alot of biz online- have bought all my ariline tickets on travelocity in the past. I LOVE ebay.

On priceline- if my price is too low, will they counter or just reject the rate? Or name the rate and I'm stuck with it?

I have never used priceline, but one of my supervisors uses it to travel a lot. He has always been happy. Buy the insurance!

I have used travelocity and expedia in the past. I find expedia to have more coices and good prices. Buy the insurance for thee as well.

As for concerns about online shopping, I do it a lot. If you have good firewalls and secure conections you should be ok. Avoid unprotected wireless connections. I secure mine like fort knox.

eBay rocks, but PayPal protects and serves. Never sold anything, so I don't know how that works, but from a buyers perspective you gotta love it.

I've used Priceline only once and I was pleased. I purchased airline tickets. I offered a lowball price request and they would reject it and counter offer at the same time. I kept throwing low offers and finally they accepted. Once they accept your offer, you are stuck with it.

Phil,

The insurance is basic trip insurance like you can get through a travel agent. Like if something comes up at the last minute (illness), whatever, and you can't go, you can have your money refunded.

If your initial price doesn't get accepted, you will have to re-send a higher bid, or change locations. That is, if you wanted to book in St. Louis for example, it will give you several areas of town (downtown, westport, central west end, forest park, you get the picture), you can change your price, or change locations. Be careful though, it will only let you re-bid a couple of times.

I've had no problems getting hotels like the Sheraton next to Savvis or the Hyatt Regency for $40.00 a night in Saint Louis. I booked an entire trip to Colorado, airfare, hotels, and rental car through them. I bet I paid less than half of what I would have with travelocity or orbitz. I've used both of them too with no problems. The online travel sites are all I use anymore. I've had a couple of booking problems, but a quick phone call has been all it has taken to get things lined out. They are all very professional.

Sorry for the delay. Got to Branson today. Just got online.

I see you have the insurance answer. A frien of mine lost a parent the day he was to fly to Jamaica. The insurance saved his vacation. It is cheap and well worth the price.

I have used Priceline a lot in the past, but never again. The micro second your price is accepted your card is charged. I'm planning a trip right now. I'm dealing directly with the airline via the net. Dealing with the airline direct is over $200. cheaper, and I get more choices on departure times. Priceline had me flying out of KC the last time. The flight was so early I had to travel to KC the night before which involved a hotel and parking for a week. Coming back was as bad as they got me to KC in time to get to the Triangle in KC at rush hour. As far as contacting Priceline about anything forget about it. If you do get someone to answer the phone it is always no. Plus they charge you for their services.

Flight insurance is a must no matter how you fly. I'll be buying my ticket six months ahead of time. Anything could happen health wise or what ever. I think the cost was $56.USD for me because of my advanced age. I believe I can tie it into my ticket, and I do not have to pay for the ticket for 90 days.
