Members CrappieNinja Posted June 2, 2014 Members Posted June 2, 2014 I have several pistol grip rods that I would like to get the handle replaced with a casting style handle. Anyone know who might mess with doing something like this? Is doing this more trouble than it's worth? They're decent rods - Shimano, g-loomis... ---------
Members kevnt63 Posted June 7, 2014 Members Posted June 7, 2014 Are they 1 or 2 piece rods? To replace handle, guides need to be removed to slide the new handles down the rod.
5bites Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 You can work from the butt end. It's doable but worth it is up to you. Remove the old cork by ripping it apart with pliers. Use heat and a razor to remove the old epoxy. Close to the reel seat make a tape bushing that matches the id of the carbon tube you will be putting. Then do the same at the butt. Epoxy the heck out of the rod and slide the tube on and let it dry. Then glue the cork grip that is reamed to fit the carbon tube or you can have it on to begin with. It really just depends if you have someone do it and how find of the rods you are. Between labor and parts it will likely be $30-50 probably.
