Kayser Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Just moved from Southern Illinois to Overland Park, Kansas, and I'm completely out of my element. I'd really like to get into walleye, crappie, and hybrids. Have kayak, will travel. Friend of mine has a fishing boat, as well. Any suggestions? Not opposed to longer drives, or splitting boat gas if someone needs a new fishing buddy (hint, hint). WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Lancer09 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Check out Clinton lake in Lawrence. They have a pretty good hybrid population over there.
blue79 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Longview Lake in Grandview,Mo has walleye.Dont leave anything in your car/truck cause the scum will break your windows to get it if no one is looking. Its best to park at the marina in the open with alot of people around. Its about 15-20 minutes from OP.
GloryDaze Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Welcome to Overland Park neighbor... I don't really lake fish but a buddy of mine has a great blog about Kansas fishing. He does a lot of crappie, but blog covers all sorts of fishing around here. If you spend some time on that digging around I'm sure you will walk away with plenty of ideas and spots to try. Kayser Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 Thanks for the advice. Keep it coming! I'm also planning on scouting places to duck hunt this fall, as well. But no gun or decoys here yet. Checked out Longview spillway last night, understand what you mean by parking in a visible area- I stayed within sight of the vehicle at all times. But only one white bass to show. Planning on going somewhere else before I repeat that trip. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
blue79 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 there use to be a good spot on the other side of the lake by the college and the baseball diamonds. And another good area is down mainstreet in grandview to Raytown rd and go north.I think its called mouse creek. There is always quite a few people in those areas. Its the little park areas where no one is around is where someone could get hurt.Lake Jacomo is good to.I think there is some state records in that lake.James A Reed lakes.Missouri river and Blue river in Missouri The Kaw river,Marais Des Cygnes river,Lacygne lake,Hillsdale lake, and Miami county lake in Kansas. Not all of these lakes/rivers have walleye, crappie, and hybrids but they would be good spots to try.
ness Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Welcome to KC, Kayser. If you're just wanting to scratch the itch and get out in the kayak close to home, there's Lenexa Lake, Kill Creek, Shawnee Mission Park and more. John
GloryDaze Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Here is one more resource... as mentioned, I do not lake fish so don't know much about these but this is a pretty extensive list of Kansas. http://kdwpt.state.ks.us/Fishing/Where-to-Fish-in-Kansas Follow me on Twitter @DazeGlory
Fly_Guy Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 You can catch more crappie than you can shake a stick at at hillsdale, but only 1 in 10 is 10 inches or larger. I've picked up a couple of walleye this year along the bank in the am as well. Let us know where you do go - our family moved to olathe last month and I've only been to hillsdale so far (see posts under kansas waters)
