No, Bass Pro are not okay. Bad ratings. I do have the Cabelas brand and they are as nice if not nicer than the Attwoods. I like them. They have worked well for me for over a year now.

I use 2 bass pro and 2 Atwoods, they all use the same bases which is permanently mounted and the rod holder plugs into the base and can be adjusted left right and up and down. The Atwood holders are made better, but the were almost twice as much. Never lost a rod with either holder, and have caught up 28lb striper using them.

Thanks guys. So, Attwoods makes both the plastic swivel type and the fixed wire type. Which ones are you all talking about? Kind of sounds like you all are talking about the plastic ones, but I know I seen a picture of some wire type in a boat recently :)

Plastic. They are very durable.

Spider rigs use wire holders typically. There is a plastic one that uses an Attwood base. Academy sells them online. Mr Crappie makes it.

Adjustable. Didn't know there was a non-adjustable.

Typically you keep the rod level with the water but sometimes I aim the rod tips upward a little bit just so I can see the rod tips easier.

Yea, attwoods has two different ones. A fixed one that they say is at the optimum angle, and one that your aware of. The fixed one is only fixed as far as angle, it looks to be adjustable bow/stern.

The ones I have made are fixed, one sits at a pretty good angle and the other almost flat. Then I made two more out of rebar... and they sit just right. About 10 to 20 degrees I like.
